Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
Went with Jim to help load a 69 El Camino up. It has an unusual set of wheels on it.
Can anybody identify a wheel like this? Also has a rare set of 66 Pontiac reclining headrest buckets. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...noSS396010.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...noSS396007.jpg |
Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
those wheels i beleive are called "drag mags", they date to around 1970, my dad still has set of 4, had them on several cars of his, Jim

Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
OK, maybe not a parts car. But the non original motor is a 68 dated 396 which I want to use in my 69 Chevelle post car project. Rick will post some more pics, car (truck) is pretty rusty!

Jim,
What brand gauges are those? Dan. |
Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
Dan,
don't know, I'm in for the night, will check in the morning and let you know. |
Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
That wheel is a Indy 500. The Indy has a closed spoke unlike the Drag Mag, which is open. I have Drag Mags on my 442. I think they are the best looking vintage wheel ever made. And the one you have is a later knock off version. Reason I know is the valve stem hole is on the flat surface instead of in the spoke area.

Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
I agree the Drag Mags are outstanding!
Reason I know is the valve stem hole is on the flat surface instead of in the spoke area. I agree with this statement aswell....the same can be said for other vintage Mags. Dan. |

Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
The truck is pretty rusty, even the roof which had a vinyl top. I suppose anything can be saved, but.....
Few more pics. Jim dreaming that it's a 427 http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...noSS396001.jpg Laguna S3 out back http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...noSS396012.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...noSS396006.jpg |
Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
Rusty quarter panel.
The other quarter and fenders are like it. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...noSS396004.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...noSS396009.jpg |
Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
Dan,
to answer your question about the gauges. It's a mixed set. One VDO vacuum gauge, two SW gauges (temp, oil pressure) |
Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
-----In south Florida those mags were called ten-spokes by just about everybody. At that time they were sort of considered a more affordable wheel. Is that better than saying "cheap"??? I always liked them anyway, but for some reason Ansen slots were more on my radar screen. Now, not so much! Americans were expensive, and only seen on rich kids cars, but were always my favorites........Bill S

The aluminum is thinner than the earlier ones. The ones you want have Forsight Ventures .... SEMA.... on the backsides, along with the valve stems in the spoke area. Forsight only made 14x6 and 15x7, both which I have a set of. The 15x7s will not fit most cars. These wheels have a huge offset, the 14x6s rub sometimes the front of my car. The knock off wheels came in 15x6, which I think the Camino wheels are. |

Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
I'm thinking of cutting the truck in half so it's easier to get the dash apart for disassembly

Re: Jim's (Wheelhop) 69 parts car
Guys,
I wanted to use these wheels from the El Camino for my "day 2" chevelle post car. Problem is, they are 15 x 6 and I need something a little wider in back like a 15 x 8. |
