67 Impala SS - Survivor big block car WIW???
Hi all...
I came across a 67 Impala SS396. It's a one owner 25K immaculate survivor car in perfect condition. All original Black 396/325, TH400, and 12 bolt posi with A/C and several other unique options. It is as nice a Survivor car as you will ever see with original invoice and nothing ever replaced except a few small items which have been saved in a box. Runs, drives and looks as if it was 6 months old. Never seen a car like this in this pristine of condition. What is a real value of this car? Any recent sales that can compare?? Thanks https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif MB |
Re: 67 Impala SS - Survivor big block car WIW???
Sounds like a real nice item. I will guess $35K.
|
Re: 67 Impala SS - Survivor big block car WIW???
$35K seems like a good estimate. Might take a little while to find the right guy to appreciate it and pay the money. Though big cars aren't as popular, its hard to beat the color and condition. Got pics?

That car looks like its been painted to me which would take away the survivor status to me. Wrong stripe also.
|
Re: 67 Impala SS - Survivor big block car WIW???
$35K seems high to me, as is isn't an SS427 or 4 speed. The paint looks way too glossy to be original, but if it is I would say this car is more around $25K.

It's a tape stripe that can easily be removed. But the paint is original. I am curious how you can tell by the photo that the car has been painted https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif. After 26 years of owning and restoring cars, this car is one of the finest originals I have ever seen. And I own a very nice original survivor and have had several phenomenal originals through this shop. MB |

[/ QUOTE ] The pic shows a more shiny finish than it actually is. The paint shows the typical flaws that you would see on an original car. I also paint gauged it and while I don't recall the numbers I got, they were in line with my original Hemi Challenger and some of the other known survivors I have had in this shop. MB |

One more. This one shows a view of the unprotected metal of the parking brake mechanism which is usually always at least surface rusted.

MB [/ QUOTE ]Im a painter by trade and have been in the body buisness for over 25 years and have had at least 20 survivor cars including a few black ones and ive never seen one that glossy. Now maybe it is, I would have to see it in person to really look at the orange peel and other notes that I have from over the years but its just my opinion that its not original paint. Btw That stripe might not be as easy as you think to get off. I removed a tape stripe from one of my original paint cars and it left a mark from where it was. Buffed it and it wont come out. Also not trying to be picky but sometime in this world were everybodys cars are low mileage. What happened to the T3 headlamps? 25k miles they should be there. Anyway it looks like a nice car to buy if you want it. I think 35 is high also myself. What kind of money is he asking if you dont mind mike? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: 67 Impala SS - Survivor big block car WIW???
I've had several experiences with cars that had somewhat edgy black paint but they photographed like mile deep show paint. Then it becomes an effort to downplay expectations, because the car can't live up to the pictures when it arrives. Just the opposite of in person, where off the shelf 8ft flourescents make every paint job look sick and scratchy.

As a matter of fact, take a look at the picture I posted of the cowl stamp and you will get a better indication of the paint condition. As for the lamps, they were replaced by the original owner with higher intensity beams as he was older and didn't see well at night. The originals, I believe are in the box I remember seeing them there. I will get the car from where I keep it and take some more photos. The original stamped belts, upper and lower rad hoses and the original plugs are in that box as well. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif MB |
Re: 67 Impala SS - Survivor big block car WIW???
There is what appears to be a VERY nice '67 Caprice 396 4-speed numbers matching with a $26K BIN on ebay if that gives you some perspective. Good luck, BCD.

I really want to keep it though as you just don't find anything like this too often. The older I get the less tolerant I am of cars that are perfumed pigs or handed around junk. But like everyone else I have a space problem so I might have to let it go, unless I can sell something else. Re: 67 Impala SS - Survivor big block car WIW???
It all depends on how they were used and cared for. I have 2 lifelong Jersey cars that are both completely rust free. (and they're 5 years older than the topic SS396).
I have a '69 El Camino that grew up in GA and AL. It's had floor pans and the fenders and quarters are bubbling. And as far as black paint is concerned, IF it had been repainted it would NOT look as black and deep as it does now. Since the '80s, no one has made a black paint as BLACK as the factories used back then. I've had my old beater, original paint black car next to a fresh $60K black paint job, and that car looks brownish-gray compared to mine. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif This paint is 47 years old. If I had it repainted, it wouldn't look this good. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...e/8ed7ac2b.jpg Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |

But there is a reason. The base/clear coat systems in use today are fine for metallics and such, but a black car should be done in a single stage. This liftoff Bee I did last year is painted with Glasurit single stage acrylic urethane. It is absolutely stunning. MB |

Chris, The '61 belongs to one of our club members. It is also original paint, aqua interior. His Dad bought it new. Its a time capsule. And that car lived its life at the shore too! As I said, it boils down to how they were taken care of.

I would like the opportunuty to offer this great car to one of the members of this fine community, but I guess I cannot post an ad(locked out??). I would love to see it go to a real enthusiast and aficianado of these cars. Frankly, if one of my other cars go first, then I am likely to keep it.
How does the rating(stars) system work?? I am figuring that is why I cannot post an ad? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif MB |

Seems like that is the norm anymore. Ask questions, pick the car communities brains, tell everyone you love the car and can't wait to buy it and then in the next breath...................FOR SALE! My how fast we loose interest in these old classics! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif
