Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
1 Attachment(s)
I'm looking at a 1969 Z28 that needs total restoration. It's a frost green X33 car with a dark green standard interior. The rear seat support has in crayon "DG3" instead of the "X3" I had expected. Is this for Dark Green x33? The seller is reliable, car has no motor, trans, front clip or interior, good shock towers, frame rails, rockers, but needs qtrs, floors and roof repair as well as just about everything else - is $7000 about right or too much? web page

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
Looks like the glue was applied over the crayon markings. That's a good sign.

here is the picture of the trim tag...

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
The letters DG before the X3 represent the exterior color which would be fathom green. Obviously a mistake was made. The trim tag looks good and with paint code 59 frost green. You are correct X3 represents X33, Z28 with style trim.

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
I had never heard of any color reference on the crayon markings - only X3, X7, etc for X33 X77 etc. - Anyone else heard of interior or exterior colors noted on the rear seat support?
Any thoughts on what the car is worth? |
Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
It has been noticed on other cars, DG would be the interiors color i.e. Dark Green and the digit 3 is for X33.

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
The DG3 designates the dark green interior with X33, we have in our shop a 20k mile X33 Z with dark green interior with the same crayon markings. An X11 Copo with dark green interior I have recently seen was DG1 in crayon.

Mark you are correct my bad... I mixed up firewall marks, and actually have that noted in various post before... It must be an age thing.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
My early 69 Z/28 has the same markings. I bet the same person or shift built both our cars. Mine is Fathom Green with a DG interior. Darren also showed me a picture of a car that said R1 and the car had a red interior with X11 trim. Both my car and the red interior car were built around the November of 1968 date with no X codes on the tag.

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
I think the reason the inside trim color was noted like this was done a call out for the color to be applied to the I panel below the padded dash. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
Mike,
That seems to make sense as the interior paint would have otherwise been black. I learned something new today https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |
Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
The fathom green/dark green interior car here is an 03D built car. The X11 Copo I mentioned was a very late 10A built car. The crayon code notes the color of the dash and rear package tray area paint since it is non black.

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
The O1 code found on the Norwood pacecars indicates Orange interior X11 style trim.
|
Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
Sorry that should have been an XO code, still meaning an X11 (or X22) coded car with an orange interior.

Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
Mark, So even though the pace cars were not coded X11 on the trim tag, they had X codes on the bulkhead?
|
Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
Yep, XO on the left side of the rear seat support under the convertible well material.
|
Re: Crayon Markings on 1969 Camaro
Never knew that....always assumed the bulkhead would have Z1, and maybe O for the interior. Thanks for the info.
Wonder why they used the X at all, as it doesn't seem to signify anything? |
