Ultimate Factories: Camaro on tonight!

Tonight on the National Geographic Channel, they're airing Ultimate Factories: Camaro. They'll be going over the history of the Camaro and you will see some footage of Ken Barnhart's 1969 ZL1 racing that we submitted.

I could not believe the Camaro with the 22's was the car they used to represent the original Camaro! Of all of the Gen1 Camaro's that are out there!! Yuck!

They also kept confusing the V-6 vs the V-8.... overall a good show!

I also thought it was amusing that they said the original Camaro had a wide, aggressive look, but then they show the yellow 67 Camaro sitting on 22" wheels and riding 3" too high. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif

And yes, I wondered how a 300hp V6 had 4 pipes on one cylinder bank.

Seriously, do these TV shows even care anymore? They spend several days in the Camaro plant, probably spent weeks editing the footage, probably cost $100,000+ (at least) to produce this 1-hour show, I'm sure they're preparing it for DVD sale on the National Geographic website, and yet they couldn't get a stock 1st Gen Camaro to film? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

i agree about not having a stock first gen camaro, but i was more interested in seeing how the cars are built. incredible how they go from a flat piece of steel to a working car in just 18 hrs !!!

Ha! And just a few days ago I made some S/A remark about GM offering a Camaro R/T or Shelby version. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

I thought the Camaro plant was pretty interesting. Just curious about something. They stated they electrically charge the body, charge the paint, and it adheres to the body. While the paint robots were busy on a red car, there was another set of robots spraying the next car (on the conveyor) a bright yellow. Is this new technology for GM, where cars of completely different colors are sprayed within a few feet of each other, and is this technically a powdercoat?

Powder primer has been in use in some plants for several years, but the basecoat and clearcoat are liquid (the basecoat is waterborne and clearcoat is 2-component solvent-borne). All are applied electrostatically, from bells that are spinning at 20,000 rpm, not from spray guns.

Nothing unusual about one color following a different color - has been done for decades, although batching colors is done where feasible; final assembly option/work content is still the primary scheduling consideration.
