Looks like someone found it scuba diving. What a shame to let a car like that rot away. It's certainly restorable, but somebody has a lot of rust repair to do.

Re: Dick Landy Hemi Challenger

Unless you know somethig the rest of us dont, the add states the car is a 70 and the Landy changed the trim in 71 to gove the car a "new car" look.

As far as the condition,I dont see what everybody is squaking about.Compare to most of the vintage racers that ended up backhalved or tube chassis'ed this car is super solid.Unless there is a lot hiding under the paint,it looks like most of that ugly will go away once you get it on a rotiserie and hit all the non exterior panels with some coarse blasting media.I am thinking that some of the stuff like the ladder bars may be from after the original build so they might need to come out,but a factory 70 Hemi Challenger that was built into a drag car by Dick Landy is a cool collector piece to me and should be worth more then most of it's over restored peers.

same Hawaiian Hemi Challenger I posted pics of a couple of years ago. If you look hard in the background is the Black 70 Challenger R/T 440/6 car that Darryl had for sale as well.

Clarence who brought the Hemis to Hawaii also brought a pair of Motion Camaros as well one being the Ribbon Racecar.

he would set up raceing with one car (street) and then bring an almost identical full race one back. 2 am races and being called in the middle of the night caused one of Joels head Mechs to return back to the mainland.

First I have heard of thie Hemi being for sale though as I just talked to Darryl on Friday and he didnt mention it as I asked about the Black R/T 440/6 car which he told me he had a pending deal on it.

I talked to the past owner in Hawaii. He did in fact sell it to someone on the mainland.

Why is it labled as a 70 with 71 grill and tail lights on it?

i would think because the VIN decodes as follows

VIN
JS23R0B346817

Body Type: J = Challenger R/T
Price Class: S = Special
Body Type: 23 = 2 Door Hardtop
Engine: R = 426 HEMI 425HP 2-4BBL 8 CYL
Year: 0 = 1970
Sequence Number: 346817 = 246817th Vehical Built

Wonder if the sister street HEMI car is also for sale

Actually, the J is for a Challenger, and the S is for the R/T. A "regular" Challenger would be in the "High" price class, so it is coded "JH." It starts with "Low" (in some cases, but not the Challenger's), then "Medium" (ditto), then H, then "Premium" (ditto), then S.

Interestingly, the quasi-luxury Challenger SE received a different body code (29 instead of 23), while the respective Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe received a different price class (it was "P") yet had the typical hardtop body code of 23. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif
