Lakewood roll bar
Does anybody know if all lakewood 3PT roll bars were the same size .Is it just the mounting feet thats differant for the applications of cars
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
Looks like the feet are the difference, except on the Corvette and VW roll bars. I've got a picture of the catalogue page but it's to big to attach. I can send it to you if you p.m. me your e-mail.
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
I'm not sure how many cars they made them for but I would think there were different. Not all cars are as narrow as a Camaro's interior. Makes sense Camaro/Nova difference would only be the feet.
Feel free to send me the pics and I'll post them up. |
Re: Lakewood roll bar
somewhere around this place someone posted good pics of a couple they had last year?
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
I sent Brent the pictures, but I'll send then along to you too. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Lakewood roll bar
3 point bars are the same for all muscle cars. Corvette is different. There are 5-6 different mounting feet kits to fit various applications.

Re: Lakewood roll bar
Thanks for the pics john.I have one i dont see it for a 67 gtx but i can modify the feet to work.Is that a hugger orange color?
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
A few months back a friend of mine called me and asked me if I wanted to buy one for a 1st gen camaro brand new in the box.I wonder if he still has it.I have to call him today I will ask.
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
I have to ask,but there probably is an obvious answer. What is up with the bent cross-bar? Seems like to would be simple and stroger to go straight with it.

Re: Lakewood roll bar
Don't know about the color on the Nickey bar but as I recall the originals were red.

Re: Lakewood roll bar
I have a Chrome Lakewood 3 point bar with an optional swing out door bar. Never seen another like it.
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
The pic in this thread is my car, we had to cut down the main hoop by about 2 inches amd realign the rear bar. We also made a mount out of flat bar, so we would not have to cut the rear seat. I will post a couple of pics. I also just sold a 3 point yesterday on craigslist.
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
I believe the rear support bar goes between the upper and lower rear seat cushions and bolts to existing seat belt bolt hole. Additional holes may be required, but not necessary for show purposes. Camaro and Chevelle bars fit with no modification to the rear seat. Note rear support bars are different just as the front mounting feet are different. Some rear bars have slight bends to make the roll bar sit correct in the car,

Kev, can you throw up a pic of your "chomie" bar?

Re: Lakewood roll bar
Tommy, do you know what Nova feet are supposed to look like? Got any reference pics?
|
Re: Lakewood roll bar
No, I have a lakewood catalog but it only gives the numbers for the kits, no pictures. If someone has various sets it might be worth it to repop a few for different cars. Kinda like the Tow tabs.... I'll gladly let someone use my camaro feet for R&D purposes.

Thanks for posting the pics Paul. The last pic shows where the door bar goes. I'll get more pics with the door bar in place by the weekend.

Re: Lakewood roll bar
Nickey Chicago sells them for 67-8-9 Camaros. 3 left. $625 each.

Re: Lakewood roll bar
I'm still looking for a mounting kit for the 3rd gen Novas so I can install mine. I have bought two of these bars and they were both mounted in Camaros so the mounting kits are wrong. Anyone got mounting kits for Novas or good pictures to go by.

Re: Lakewood roll bar
C1SS396 aka John McKee posted a bar for sale back in March. I contacted him to ask a few questions about it, but he just pm'd me that it was sold. I was actually more interested to learn how the feet were configured and see some pictures, but never got that far with him.
Maybe the person who bought it can share what it looks like. I'm pretty certain form John M's post he did not know what it was out of. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...dcatalogue.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...I26BK6jmLM.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...0903024203.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...-reszd3135.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...NovaMGrove.jpg http://images25.fotki.com/v950/photo...G0009bb-vi.jpg |

But is Tommy the sheriff or the deputy?? |
Re: Lakewood roll bar
Lower than that.... deputized by the deputy, i'm in Bernard P Fife's possey...
Tommy |
Re: Lakewood roll bar
That's good company in Fife's Possey! How many bullets you allowed to carry in your pocket?

Re: Lakewood roll bar
No bullets.. Just armed with a droid smart phone
I have been trying to find the correct mounting kit for my lakewood bar to install it in a 3rd gen Nova but haven't found anything yet. Here's the other thing I have noticed and it may be important for the Nova folks. Some of the third bars are bent at the bottom, others at the top and some are straight. Trying to get mine to look and fit properly in my Nova would be a lot easier if I new which third bar is used in the Novas. From the last pic of the 69 nova it's clear the back bar isn't bent at the top but could be at the bottom or may even be straight. If anyone has any more pictures or information on applications it might help a bunch of us Day 2 guys out. Tommy |
Re: Lakewood roll bar
Do you have the front part that swings away? I found a complete one about 2 months ago with the 4th bar but I thought someone might have added it.

I am not sure who made the foam covered 3 point roll bars, but I also own one. Mine is for 55 Chevy. I will post a picture of it later today, it has the same seems.

Re: Lakewood roll bar
It was made by Lakewood and I seen an original ad that was dated 1971. I will try to get a copy and post it.
