Re: 20K for a 64K mile 428 CJ Torino Cobra!!

I think most guys who are into vintage Fords are more interested in Mustangs/Shelbys and early big engine Galaxies. The 68-71 Torinos don't get much love, unfortunately.

I think the styling of the 68-9 cars holds them back, along with the fact that the 428, while it was a huge improvement over the 390, wasn't considered a serious threat to the 427 Chevrolets and Hemi Mopars. If Ford had just gone ahead and offered the solid cam 427 in significant numbers, the story might have been different.

With the later 70-71 cars... well, I think the solid lifter 429 SCJ was capable of running with almost anything from that era. But, by the time it made the scene, the party was winding down and it didn't have a chance to make any real impact. A case of too much, too late.

Down to $20k

The car is a '68 Torino GT, not a Fairlane Cobra from '69. They are very similar but have different popularity and rarity scales. The '68s are the red-headed stepchildren of the bunch.

Did anyone notice the transmission breakdown?

I like this car, and some of the quickest Fords I knew in the old days had the 428 in them. I think it's a bargain at that price.

I recently found a potential buyer for this car by passing on this link.
He was going to call the owner but after seeing the Auto on the column, he changed his mind.
It is a superb car but that automatic on the column will make it a tough sale even at that price.
Just my honest opinion, but good luck with the sale.

I don't really understand what the problem is with the column shifter. These cars are pretty obscure. I certainly wouldn't kick one out of bed.

Actually the 68 is the rare one not the 69. The 428 CJ was a mid year offering April fools day just like the 68 1/2 Mustang. The Torino/Fairlane cars are very soft indeed. This includes the Talladega. I know this particular car very well and it is a very nice driver from Coronado and was owned by a pilot. All of the 68's were automatics with the exception of 1 race team issued car. The short comings on this particular car are the added hood scoop and lack side moldings to make it look like a 69 Cobra. The laquer paint is older and unfortunately shrunk on the sides revealing the old side molding hole locations. Joe's Dad bought it from the pilot and the family has had it since the 80's.

That is a neat car in a good color. Been for sale for a while tho. It would be nice to see it go to a home that recognizes it for what it is.
Not mine.
