GM Nationals @ Carlisle
VINTAGE CERTIFICATION

We are pleased to announce our continued commitment to the GM Nationals. Our judging program has participated at the GM Nationals since 1999, and we are excited about this June 24, 25 &26 2011. Carlisle is an iconic venue, which has much to offer participants, spectators and embraces all GM Brands. It also affords our program the ability to judge and certify Camaros, Chevelles and Novas.
We are just now accepting applications for our program and if the first two cars is any indication it should be a great show. How about an ultra low mileage Survivor ZL1 Camaro for Vintage Legend Certification, which is being shown for the first time or a concours restored LS6 Chevelle for Vintage Elite Certification.

We have two distinct programs:

Vintage Legend focuses on the unrestored Camaro, Chevelle and Nova. This program provides status, recognition, provenance and appreciation to unrestored vehicles. The certification team provides each owner with a detailed listing of our findings in a comprehensive report. Our goal is to uncover new information, share it with you and act as a repository for factory standards and processes.

Vintage Elite focuses on the restored Camaro, Chevelle and Nova. This program encourages hobbyist and restorers to use factory processes, finishes and standards when restoring vehicles. Components, finishes and assemblies that deviate from factory standards will be noted as such in a comprehensive certification report.

Our certification teams consist of judges Brett Merryman, Steve Shauger, Chris White, Jeff Dotterer and Brian Henderson who collectively have over 125 years of experience as restorers, historians and collectors. Each team spends three hours examining each vehicle in the following areas; Engine Compartment, Underbody, Exterior, Interior and Trunk. Our standards are based on years of research data which we have collected through our Vintage Legend program, restorations, personal collections and GM documentation.

How do I proceed getting my Car Certified???

Simply email us vintagecert@optimum.net or contact Steve Shauger at 631-514-9765 and we will send you our Mission Statement/ Participation Guidelines. If after reviewing you feel your car meets our criteria, fill out the last page “Pre-Qualification Application” and email or mail it to the address/email provided at the bottom of the application.

Once we receive the application it will be reviewed. If your vehicle qualifies you will be notified and provided a Vintage entry number. The next step is to contact Carlisle via website at: http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/eve...nals/index.asp or call 717-243-7855 and register your vehicle. Be sure to reference your Vintage Pre-Qualification entry number, because you will be unable to register your vehicle in this program without it.

The registration fee includes:

Two entry passes for the show
Pass for Trailer parking
Pass for car being judged.

If you have questions email us at vintagecert@optimum.net or contact Steve Shauger at 631-514-9765 / or Brett Merryman can be reached at 740-676-4920. Our programs are concours level, and thereby requires that your vehicle to be pre-qualified. Space is limited due to the amount of time required to verify and inspect all reference areas, so apply early. We look forward to seeing everyone at the GM Nationals, so stop by the Y building and say hello.

The cars below will be participating at GM Nationals @ Carlisle. They will be displayed in the Solid Lifter Showroom hosted by the Super Car Workshop. The Vintage Certification team will also be located in the SLS building, which is where the certification process will take place. Kudos to Brian H., Joe S. and Frank A. for assembling this stellar, rarest of the rare group of cars. Many of the cars have never been displayed in public, so stop by and enjoy this fantastic assemblage of GM muscle.

I look forward to seeing everyone and sharing the jewels of information we find during our certification process. If time allows we may certify a few others.

I doubt if you see me Steve, I will probably go to MD. The SLS you can see without going thru the gates and everyone knows there is nothing much there on Friday. Every time I go to a Carlisle event it is very evident on how greedy they are getting IMO. It was evident at Spring Carlisle when they put the brick wall up out at the fence by gate 7 near the car corral. Anyone who was there will know what I mean.

I saw that. They are getting very greedy.

Either way.... I will only be there on Thursday since my sister's wedding is Saturday and the rehearsal is Friday. Not expecting much in the vendors field this year.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

I have been judging the 2nd Generation LEGENDS Class for the American Camaro Assoc "CAMARO NATIONALS" since it started, some years ago.

I will be at Frederick, MD this weekend as that's where the show has moved.

This separtion and movement of the "CAMARO NATIONALS" is bad for the hobby, participants and spectators all around.

I'll never know the truth as to what transpired over the years, between Carlisle Productions and the ACA. I'll never know the truth what happened within the 1st Gen judging circle, that caused the "divorce". I'm just a peon enthusiast from Seattle trying to help where I thought there was a need.

I have the greatest respect for the SCW gang and all their customers cars.

Now Carlisle has enlisted the help of their all star judging team to replace what the ACA has been doing for 12 years.

I sincerely hope in the near future all the owners and spectators can reunite at ONE Annual Camaro Show.

This is akin to brother vs brother in the Civil War.

Respectfully written and sadly submitted.............

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

I agree with you Chuck and I will be at MD also even though I am only 20 minutes from Carlisle. As for the judging circle, there should be way less bickering now since some of the judges are miles apart. It's sad sometimes, I always thought it should be more about the hobby and not so much as someone's ego.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

The GM Nationals was very well received. Obviously no one knew what to expect, but I must say the show was well attended overall. I spent Thursday and Friday in the Solid Lifter Showroom and it was awesome. Mostly new cars displayed along with some very nice survivor cars. There were 4 ZL1's, 7 solid lifter unrestored cars, L89, L72's, Motion Chevelle and a host of others. I just set up a photo bucket account.

Solid Lifter Showroom

The fairgrounds has many new exhibits and from what I heard they were also well received. I did spend time in the show field on Saturday and the field was filled with ALL GM models on display, Buick Stage 1's, Olds W30's Pontiac Ram Air IV and of course a nice display Chevrolets. One surprise for me was the vendor area was really buzzing with action. I in fact purchased one YH wheels, plug wire stands, wiring harness, thermostat housing and a jack assembly.

Was it different yes, but I must say it was very satisfying and it was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

That car is a very rare Fremont built L78 Chevelle with smog I think there were less than 35 L78 smog coded chevelle motors built in 67. That car resides in Pa.

I was not going to attend this show, but on Sat I arrived at 8:00 A.M. and left at 10:30 A.M. Attached are some pictures that I took on Sat morning of the car corral area and the show field near the car corral that used to be filled with cars. Also there is a picture of building Y that used to be filled with exceptional cars as well as the outside of the building as it sits nearly empty now. I talked to a friend who was selling parts on Friday and he said D&R one of the sponsors of this site left on Friday evening. I happened to see Bill M riding around on his golf cart and I'm sure he was not satisfied with attendance at the gate. If it would not be for the SLS this show is not worth going to IMO. Carlisle management also made a change this year to make all the food vendors use cash registers and keep track of all receipts so they can take 20% of there take. Carter Food Concession's one of the largest food vendor's who has been there for probably every show since they started decided to not attend anymore and I am sure there are others. If anyone thinks this GM show is an improvement since the ACA left please let us all know.

Steve Shauger 06-27-2011 07:52 PM

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

Jeff, not sure what your agenda is with your negative comments towards Carlisle. The pictures I took were at the same show on Saturday around 1:00pm, and it was well attended.

Quite obviously its not the same show, in fact the Y building you showed was later filled with a regional program "Hot Rodders of Tomorrow" which is an automotive competion for vocational high school students. The winner of this competion goes on to a national event. To me it was nice to see the youth of tomorrow getting their hands dirty and enjoying the same things we do CARS! Maybe that doesn't interest you but there was a lot of enthusiam from those students, parents and instructors.

My comment regarding the vendors was that it was surprising to me that it was so well attended at the time I was walking around (my expectations were low). I also heard from a few vendors that Saturday was "really good".

There is no reason to compare the shows because they are completely different and both are moving forward. The Maryland show is what it is and I'm sure those that attended were satisfied.

If you have suggestions or issues why not address them directly with Carlisle management.

For me it was a chance to see some of the rarest GM built muscle and to have fun and food and drink with friends. The Vintage team is looking forward to MCACN in Chicago, and Carlisle next year. I expect an even better Carlisle show next year, and I've already provided Carlisle with some new ideas and suggestions.

Verne_Frantz 06-28-2011 12:44 AM

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

As a vendor at this show, I will say that I have done very well in the past and not so bad this year, considering that all I ever hear is that the show is going down the toilet and "I" will not be back. Sat. thinned out to almost nothing by 1pm so I packed at 2pm, but it was still well worth while for me.
I have to admit that I am also in a state of disbelief that this show has not taken off and done a lot better. Afterall, with Chevy being the #1 GM collector car, this should be the equivilent of a Chevy Meet. There were a LOT of empty vendor spaces but there were also serious buyers. Maybe I just do well because I have real & good parts (you can't restore a car properly with a telephone). Anyway, I will continue to be there unless it does die.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

Sam and others, I WAS at the CAMARO NATIONALS in Frederick,MD helping to judge the 2nd Gen LEGENDS(restored)Camaros. I also walked about as any enthusiast would. I enjoyed the overall experience and heard most everyone else doing likewise.
People are people. Those at Carlisle had their fun and we at
Frederick did so also. It's just a shame that WE all cant be together and experience EVERYTHING together.

My expectations were exceeded. I've heard the car count was 350+. There were alot of 5th Gen(new)Camaros that were driven in from many states far and wide. I believe this site (for the most part) stops thinking Camaro after the 1969 year.

As many of you at Carlisle were no doubt hearing negative comments about Frederick, we were hearing misc negative hearsay about Carlisle. He said, she said, yada, yada, yada ......
about who left, who was there, who had the bigger xxx, you know
the routine.

The new venue at the Frederick Fairgrounds was very acceptable with two good size bldgs being used for the LEGENDS and HEARTBEAT restored. As well Rick Settlemire from G.M. brought in a Reliable Truck load of Camaros that included the new ZL-1.
The venue also had a open show field (ala Carlisle) where the majority of the cars were lined up in a large variety of classes.

There were maybe six professional food vendors. These was a small variety of amatuer private party guys selling used and NOS Camaro parts. I actually saw more CAMARO parts at this show than I normally see at G.M. Carlisle (when you eliminate all the garbage, and other misc G.M.parts)

City of Frederick is moderately sized. There had a COSTCO, Super Walmart and any type of store or restaurant that you would want at a car show weekend anywhere. Freeway access off I-70 was a breeze.

The Host Hotel was a large Holiday Inn & Conference Center. Parking lot area was huge. We had a typical hot breakfast buffet each morning. We had a charity silent auction dinner on Friday night.

I observed people having fun talking with old friends and meeting new ones. I heard people expressing their pleasure in being there. The www.nastyZ28 web site had a BBQ lunch for its many members and guests that attended.

On Saturday at 4PM there was the typical award presentations.

As I've said before I will always miss Brian, Joe & Frank's display of superbly restored Camaros and Novas. I think this entire situation stinks. Business, money, power and control must prevail with Carlisle Productions. I was told that the Maryland Camaro Club operates the "CAMARO Nationals" as a non profit.

In all likelyhood this Pixxing contest will continue for years to come. I will continue to support the stand alone CAMARO NATIONALS and hlp it grow, gain parts vendors, prestiege and profitability.

I'll step off my soap box for now and let whomever fire away at my observations

respectfully submitted,

Chuck Sharin (my real name)

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

I really have not followed this issue closely as hitting the Solid Lifter Showroom has always been a top priority for me. I think I might enjoy the Camaro Nationals as a stand alone event. I really enjoy the type of scene that Chuck described.

The only issue I have is if the Camaro Nationals continues to be held the same weekend as GM Carlisle- regardless of being non-profit seems rather spiteful and only alienates a fellow like myself who would be open to the event if it wasn't for the scheduling conflict. Seems like there certainly are ego problems on both sides and somewhere in between the two opinions is the real world. I think whichever side realizes that 1st will ultimately "win" the crowd on the merits of the show, rather than competing in the same North East Region, for the same crowd on the same weekend.

Good luck fellows!

I didn't go to the show for the food vendors or to worry about a banner. It was an event that in the end was very satisfying. I saw many first time shown cars I think 20 in the SLS alone(how about that 11k mile special order Ram Air IV GTO in the show field). What makes a show to me is the gathering of like minded people and their cars.

Obviously you have a different take after spending a couple of hours, but for those of us that spent four days setting up, judging, relaxing, having a few brews and meals with friends... it was a blast. The only thing real I sense is your contempt for Carlisle Productions.

It goes without saying that we all believe this show should be much bigger and better. Many of us want to be part of the solution......
