Re: 69 ZL1 Camaro

Jerry certified that it is an original ZL1 engine, he didn't certify the car.

It says recreation ZL1 with OEM ZL1 engine. I don't know the story here but I have to ask, why not try to reunite the motor with the correct car if it still exists?

----I would have thought that almost any ZL-1 would have the wide 69 spoiler as they are a bit later production. Am I wrong???.......Bill S

Owner of the Real Red ZL1 doesnt care that much about the original motor to pay that much to have it in his car! He bought it without the original motor and it didnt bother him then or now..

If memory serves me right the yellow Berger #3 ZL1 that Bill Porterfield and later Charley Lillard owned, had the short spoiler.

Re: 69 ZL1 Camaro

There were a couple of nice ZL1 clones with real 69 ZL1 motors at the fall Mecum that didn't sell.If i remember they had a high bid somewhere in the 50 thousand range and didn't sell. This guy is asking way to much for this car, like he does with all his cars. From what i'm seeing, the clones aren't bringing the money they once were.

I recently watched an episode of Chasing Classic Cars where a red ZL1 was sold out of the Milton Robson collection. The car didn't have the original engine in it but, after the car was sold, the owner of the original engine was said to have approached the new owner and offered to sell him the motor. This wouldn't happen to be that car would it?

I think Milts was Orange.

Yes, Milt had HO #63, sold by RM auction at his house. Car went to Canada, but it's original engine may still be here in GA, unless they worked out a deal

Re: 69 ZL1 Camaro

The one I am referring to was definitely red; at least they referred to it as red in the show. The same guy bought his 1970 RA IV Judge convertible and I just assumed the buyer was from Connecticut where Wayne Carrini lives.

Yes, they showed that guy before and his house which was in CT.

Original ZL-1 engine has been rebuilt & re-installed by Camaro Hi-Perf Inc.

Milt sold 3 RA IV Judge verts and his Hugger Orange ZL-1 #63 at his house thru RM. We were there & there were no red Camaro's. There was an FG Yenko with mostly original paint and day2 mods that sold around 280.
If it's the same auction, it was probably just an error by the announcer. I think Milt owned #63 twice. He sold it to Mike Lowe (owns Jasper Jeep) then bought it back in a 3 car deal which included a Air Box Corvette & Plum Crazy Hemi Challenger convert
I'm pretty sure that the Red clone being discussed her was built in Ga by Johnny Norell. I remember seeing it parked next to a clone of #51 that his dad owned and discussing that the red one had a real vin'd block in it. They were both nice looking cars. Johnny later found a very cool ex-race barn find COPO that he still takes to shows & local cruise ins

Not in Canada. I know the owner. Where is the original motor?!

Re: 69 ZL1 Camaro

What is the price range for the ZL1 ??

Re: 69 ZL1 Camaro

The original engine is in the car, they were reunited post auction. The story goes the owner of the engine had found the car but hadn't bought it yet. Shared the story with Milt & Milt went & bought it. As long as the car was in Milts hands, the motor would not be in it. When the buyer won the auction, the owner of the engine approached him and soon thereafter a deal was struck.

Jerry MacNeish rebuilt & re-installed the original engine, it now resides here in CT.

Re: 69 ZL1 Camaro

BTW, the car was Orange and the same owner bought Milts 70 Red RA IV/4spd Judge Convertible, but has since sold that car.

Re: 69 ZL1 Camaro

I believe the Red/red car is #62 and it was sold again this year at a Mecum auction. The block was offered to a previous owner for $40,000 several years ago.
As Rich P indicated the owner at the time passed and still managed to sell the car without a problem. The real car is a very awesome car.
Does anyone here know the car's history?
