Clean 68-69 Dart GT in factory B-5 blue. Very few people notice the rear fender opening were raised 2" for tire clearance.

That is the size opening Chrysler should have had on the cars.

If you know of this silver Hemi 73 Dart you really know your 1970's history. car was recently brought back out after a 30 year storage.

whitetop, I remember an article about that Dart in Car Craft, I think. Was that a Hemi build if I remember correctly? I know that car and remember the article, but don't remember the specifics. Maybe if it was a Camaro I would, as I have those details seared/tattooed in my mind, lol, just like Gary Fravel's '68.

I am a big fan of the Dart/Duster but do not specifically remember this one in a magazine. If you or anyone can remember it being in a specific magazine and approximately what year I would be happy to search my library and see if I can find it.

The silver Dart was featured in all the big 3 mags of the day, Hot Rod, Car Craft and PHR approx between 77 through early 78. It was a significant car in the day not just because it had a Hemi but a well engineered NOS system that worked well on the street without grenading the engine....not the first street car to use NOS but one of the first that used it dependably and schooled others on what worked and didn't.

Do you need/want any copies of these magazines or do you already have them? If you need them I will dig them out after MCACN if that works.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Mopar Thread

Here is my wife's 1971 Duster when she first got cira 1993. She actually trusted me enough after dating only 6 months or so. "See babe, there's a cool little project car I know of and it doesn't run, but you won't have your licence for 6 months anyways. I think you should buy it!"

Having my dad as a resource probably gave me a bit too much confidence in being able to handle any project. The only part bad about that was how many projects I took in without consulting my parents. My mom drew the line after I had about 9 cars/ motorcycles at their house.

http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../Duster1-1.jpg

Yeah, it doesn't run but you gotta see my vision. Tires came off right away and the 15x8 Cragar's that couldn't fit my 65 Chevelle fit great! L60 LARAMIE rocking out back. This is also where I learned about small lug Chrysler. Someone previously had bought axles out back for the big pattern, but left the front's stock. Notice no lugs on the front. This was just a Photo-op.

I'll have to dig some better pictures, but this gets you the idea. Car was quickly painted a more universally likeable color. Found a set of small lug Cragar SS wheels and also found a set of Cragar Mach 8 wheels with a more neutral offset so we could run 295/50 15 in the stock wheel wells.

To my wife's credit, she saw more in me than I did at the time. Hard to beleive that was 20 years ago! Pretty cool she wasn't a poser either. She helped swing wrenches and raced it at the track. This was a track rental day and I don't think I drove it once!

Yep, and add a 440-6 or a Hemi and call it perfect. Oh, and WHITE headers snaking out from underneath.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Mopar Thread

Everyone remembers a local car when growing up they consider magical...a car that just takes you back to a different time.

This is mine. A guy in my hometown, Phil, bought this '71 Duster brand new and today he still owns it today with 17k original miles and paint. I remember this car very well because his dad's Texaco gas station was right next to my grade school and he would come by the school every day about the same time and I would peer out the window which was road level just to catch a glimpse of it. Still remember the white coated headers sticking out underneath and with the brown paint and Cragars it just had a wow factor. Car was not the fastest to begin with (318 Duster) but it just had that "high school" look we remember so well and it was always exceptionaly clean..and still is.

The dent in the rear quarter was from a errant baseball thrown at his senior picnic.

Car had Sun gauges and tach , Torker intake, Nationwise (NRS) valve covers and L60-14 Dayton bias tires and E-70's on the front.

Phil told me he bought the car from money he earned working at his dad's gas station since he was really young and the first dealer he went to did not take him seriously at 16 years old so the next dealer he took cash and they did. I think his dad did have to make the official purchase due to his age.

Phil's Mom was an artist and she hand lettered some lyrics from a song by the group Traffic, The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys on the rear tail pan. Song lyrics or some similar philosophical quote lettered on cars was so 1970's.

Here are the lyrics.

The percentage you're paying is too high priced
while you're living beyond all your means
and the man in the suit has just bought a new car
from the profit he's made on your dreams

Motion Duster?

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Mopar Thread

Paul, cool Motion Duster. I would presume it was built/tuned by Motion and not just a sponsor.

Hi-Performance Cars had an article on a 73 Dart Sport Motion built. I believe it had a 340 in it.

Very cool White top. Do you have any more pics of that Duster?.I remember My Dads first Company car was a Straight 6 duster that same brown with those odd looking full wheel covers with white wall tires.car was only 2 years old at the time.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Mopar Thread

I know this Dart is a Mr. Norm's car and is presumed to be a real Dart Sport GSS! Of course the HEMI makes it more interesting. Sounds like the 340 didn't last too long or something. I didn't know it was in the magazines BITD.

Just saw your first post with yr Dad's blue Bee, that he bought new at Fredericks Dodge in Canfield. Did your family used to live there? What engine, tranny & rear came in the car? Love the white underside, blue headlites, tires and wheels. Looks just right!

Dad lives near Glenwood Av and Rt 224 south of the Boardman shopping center.

LOVE those two Super Bees, and that Cutlass is cool as it reminds me of my mom's old Cutlass (that thing did the best burnouts).

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Mopar Thread

The Cutlass is my favorite. A guy in HS had the same exact car/color and Cragars back in 1979-1980.
I've always liked those cars ever since.

gthomas 02-13-2012 08:22 PM

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Mopar Thread

Funny you guys should say that. I was going to list the cutlass for sale last weekend, but didn't get to it. It has 30,100 original miles and is a total survivor. It has never been in the rain. That's all original paint, painted double pinstripe, and vinyl roof. The car is an incredible survivor (even the gas cap is still anodized). 350/4bbl air and I still have 4 of the original tires it left the factory with (1 has a busted belt) PM me if any of you are interested. Only $6,000.00 without the wheels and a little more with them.
