Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
What are your plans for the car and what kind of rear tires(or slicks) do you have in mind or maybe already have on the car? If you like tall, like I do, the Moroso Drag Special Front Tires come in 28 and 29 inch tall versions. They've been made in the same molds forever so buying a brand new set is like discovering a vintage NOS set. They are bias-ply though and they do tend to wear a bit quickly, especially on a car that needs a front alignment. The Pro-Tracs are also a nice front tire and I have a very nice vintage NOS set that was recently discovered in a small tire warehouse here in St. Louis but after I mounted them up, they have a really big sidewall bulge. I've never seen a set of front runner tires bulge out the way that they do.

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
have to watch how tall you go for turning radius problems. 15X4's do not have much backspacing. I am with Mark on the Moroso's or even Stahl's if you can find them. 6.70's rub my 69 Z/28 when turning. I like 6.40X15's. They are under 27" tall. I believe the Moroso's and Stahl's pretty much the same tire, are 7.10 and 7.60. Pretty tall!

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
Pro Trac offers two different tires for front runners. One size will bulge quite a bit on a narrow rim. The other size doesn't.

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
5.20 and 5.60 x 15 are basic old VW tire sizes. That's the size many street rodders use for front tires to get the big and little look. No way is a 5.60 what you would use if you want the tall look. I'm thinking 7.10 at least is what is on the front of the Jenkins Camaro. You gotta remember, dedicated drag race cars put up with a lot of things that weren't really street friendly. Make up your mind what you want, the look, or street manners.

Well said. This is the 5.60 and the 235/60-15 Pro Tracs on a Vega. 25.88 on the front and 26.65 on the rear. Good for a smaller car but not for a Chevelle, etc. IMO. |

How do you think these front tires would look and be on a 70 Nova?? They would need to be on a 15x5 or 15x6 wheel correct?? I really like the look of this tire.. The sidewall bulge look would match the M&H Racemasters on the rear of my car.. Rich |
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
Nice look Rich. I like it!

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
i have those on 15-6 prostar rims on my 69 chevelle. they do bulge a little but i like em cause their about 27" tall.

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
I like the 670 or 640/15 nylon thumpers for the front. BF Goodrich Silvertowns or the firestones.

Mike, could you post a picture of these tires on your Chevelle?? I am curious to see how they look mounted and on the car... Do you have any issues with the tire rubbing the wheel well while turning?? I am wondering if I will on the Nova from what Sam indicated... Thanks... Rich |

I love the sidewall of these Firestone wheels. They remind me of the old Stahl and Firestone 500's

there ya go!!

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
Yeah Sam, you were right about the 670 size. Seems to be one of the few to come in black wall and offer a pretty good fit on a Camaro or Nova.

i just spent some time researching these tires on sam's recomendation, the dims on these tires are almost the same as a moroso drag front, so will this tire give me that vintage drag look? It seems like it should, doies anyone have any pics of this tire on there car? http://www.cokertire.com/brands/fire...blackwall.html |
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
I think the BF's or Stones should work fine Killa! Gotta remember nobody on the street bought racing fronts in those days. We went down to Sears, Penney's, Pep Boys etc. and bought the cheapest tire we could for our applications. Can't make this Day-2 thing a science just make it the best bang for the buck as we did 40 years ago.

I actually ordered the firestones on your suggestion Sam just waiting to get them from Cocker, I really think they will give me the look that I am shooting for. |
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?

|

Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
yes, a little tall but if it steers on the rims you want to use, stay with them.
|
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
it has pleanty of clearance from what i can tell
|
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
Is there a floor jack under the control arm? If not, the front suspension is not being loaded. I think you'll be fine with what you have. What size is it?
|
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
they are 670x15
|
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?

|
Re: got my first set of CRAGARS?
