1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
Not sure if this car has been discussed before, but I thought it was pretty cool. Someone had great taste back then, they ordered a 1970 El Camino, SS, with an LS6, 4-speed, 4.10 gears, and wrapped it all up in black with white stripes.
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...gn=FL0112_S166 Says a partial build sheet was found. Anyone know if this was how the car was actually built? |

Note sure why the link didn't work, sorry about that...

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
You have to wonder why someone would order a El Camino rather then a Chevelle with that drivetrain. Cool none the less

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
----I would give my left,,,well,,,you know, to own this El Camino. It reminds me so much of the black L89 69 SS El Camino I had. The biggest baddest El Camino you could order for the given year. It was even ordered with M22 and 4:10s and sans radio. The original owner of mine (ordered at Slaton Chevrolet in Ft. Lauderdale) just wanted the fastest 69 El Camino that he could get. I think that initially he planned to use it as a shop truck, but that thought changed when he saw it for the 1st time. In any event, he only put 15,000 miles on it and never used the bed for anything (ever) before he sold it to me in 1975.....Bill S

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
I know in IA. that a few farm boys bought Elkys with high hp motors rather than Chevelles because they're registered as trucks. Big motor in a truck, no insurance problems. Big motor in a SS Chevelle, big insurance payment.
And they could deduct it as a farm expense. Win, win. |
Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
Those poor chickens never saw it coming.

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
That Camino would look sweet parked next to my Triple black LS6 Chevelle and it has a matching M22.

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
That thing is just beautiful, love it.

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
What is production estimated on these? Less than 50 I would assume.

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
Wasn't there an black aluminum head LS6 El Camino on display at the MR Gasket headquarters for some years??
|
Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
69 L78's and 70 LS6 Caminos were often used by the Air Force as chase vehicles for the U2 plane to retrieve the pogo sticks and to assist in landings. Unfortunately they were painted in Air Force colors with white stenciling so they were not very pretty.

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
I have an old magazine that has a black 70 el camino and 70 chevelle both with ls6 and m22 and 4:10. They were owned by the same guy and they did identical tests and races with them and the chevelle was quicker because of more weight in rear. Wonder if this might be the same car. The magazine was 1979-1981. I have it somewhere. The el casino ls6 cars are a rare breed!

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
The first LS6 powered car I ever saw was an El Camino.
Hanging out at the local burger joint when a senior in our high school comes in to tell us to come look at his new truck he just picked up. It was a beautiful black with white bucket seat interior LS6 El Camino. We were all drooling when he opened the hood and saw the 454/450 horsepower stickers on the aircleaner! Wonder where that truck ever got to? |

Reminds me when I was 14 and jumped over the fence into the neighbors yard at 4am and opened the hood of his 66 Acadian Sport Deluxe. I stood there for a long time looking at the 327-350HP. sticker that was on the air cleaner. Wonder where that truck ever got to? </div></div> |
Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
I remembeber Stefano having a black 70 LS6 El Camino for sale a few years ago. If you interested in this car it might be worth checking with him to see if it was the same car for more details. I just can not imagine many of them around.

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
----Joel,,,That El Camino in Mr.Gasket headquarters was the 69 I mentioned above. I sold it to Bill Lippay, Joes buyer. Never knew he had it on display though. The same black on black 69 was at MCACN a couple of years ago. I sold it to Joe for $5500. Did I do OK??? He was, of course, much more interested in 57 Chebbies and had many, many beautiful ones......Bill S

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
The last several documented ones that have been for sale that I've seen listed in the last couple years have all gone for 6 figures plus.
* Silver/Black one at BJ Scottsdale last year * Silver one at Mecum * White one at Red Hills Rods & Choppers ....former drag car There's a nice Forest Green one in my neck of the woods and now this Black one at Mecum.....before you know it we'll have them all identified |
Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
There was a yellow one featured in CHP (I think) a few years back, but I had heard it was destroyed in a fire later?

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
one of them was restored by ledgendary on the show dream car garage.

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
----There is an Australian guy I have met who owns several 70 LS6 El Caminos. He also has a place in Wisconsin, and I believe he spends, or at least did spend time both in Wisc. and Australia. Nice guy! Hes a close buddy of an old Corvette friend of mine......Bill S

Wayne talked about that multiple times in the past (don't know why I was under the impression it was a 70) But I remember the aluminum heads clearly. He said it was on display in a reception area. Mike has a 375 66 El Camino with a POP and it's a bucket seat/console car. Never had seen that on a non-SS El before. |
Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
----Wow!!! That 66 would be another extremely rare El Camino......Bill S

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
Hey.Maybe it's the same one from Two Lane Blacktop.;)

Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed

</div></div> We did sell an authentic Black on Black all original drivetrain LS6 El Camino with 4.10s. It ended up in a collection in Florida..........so could be the same LS6. |
Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
I believe that is Stefano's old car.

I have heard about a few more over here. I remember one of the very first Swedish magazines I bought and they had a story of a GMC El Camino (Don't remember if they were called El Camino) that a dragracer had imported. It had a 454 and it was impressive, could lay down 1000ft of rubber on the street Anders it is in Colorod No3! Jan |
Re: 1970 El Camino LS6 4-speed
I was told this by a guy in the U.S. a few years ago: "There´s a guy in north Florida who owns a auto salvage place, still in business to this day. He mention he did many deals with the people in Sweden early on. Some cars he remembers selling them is 70 LS6 El Camino´s."
