"1971 Mustang MACh1, car is complete, good for parts"

That is how the ad was written... I found this car advertised on Feb. 12, I emailed the seller and asked for his phone number, I had some questions and wanted to make arrangements to see the car. He replied later that evening and I phoned him yesterday morning. The car has been in his family for 25 years, it was his uncles car. It has a strong 351 with an automatic but he said it originally had a 429. I made arrangments to see the car when he got home from work and I told him I will bring cash and a trailer, he thought that was great and because of that I got to see the car first. Now I don't know anything about these cars, nothing at all so I spent most of the day reading all the information I could find, I really enjoy this type of education! Knowing that this car possibly had a 429 I was of course hoping it would be a J code car with the Drag Pac, that would be really cool but I was expecting it to be a 351 car. When we arrived at the sellers home he asked me to meet him around the side of his house where the car was parked. I walked up to it and immediately checked the VIN and there was that "J" I was hoping for, wow! I asked to see the regi/title to make sure the VIN matched and it did. It was pouring rain and I really didn't feel like crawling all over and under the car and since it was a J code it really didn't matter how bad it was, I wanted it so we made a deal and we took it home. Oh, I did look inside and noticed it had a fold down rear seat that was down and it had a bunch of junk on it, I noticed a flat panel underneath everything, I hoped it was for the Ram Air system, it was. I sent for the Marti Report last night at 9:55pm and recieved it this morning at 8:05am, that was quick. The car was built at Dearborn in Dec. 1970, 429-4V Engine Ram Air, Four Speed Close Ratio Transmission, 3.50 Traction-Loc Rear Axle, Grabber Blue Paint, White Clarion Knit/Corinthian Vinyl Bucket Seat, Immersion Block Heater, F70x14 Wide Oval Belted Raised White Letter Tires, Power Steering, Sport Deck Rear Seat, Power Front Disc Brakes, Rear Window Electric Defrost, AM/FM Stereo Radio, Console and Tinted Glass. The Dealer was P. E. Boisvert Auto Ltee in Boucherville, Quebec, Canada. This is my second Ford, my grandmother gave me her 1956 Ford Zephyr in 1982 when I was 15 years old

We plan on just cleaning it up and getting it inside for now. Eventually we will try to find a correct engine and transmission, it will be a project for my sons and I.

C-codes are rarer! :-)

To clarify for the OP, the Drag Pack was independent of ram air, so you could have a C-code SCJ too.

Anyway, EXCELLENT score with great color and Canadian "provenance" (I hate that word....). Would you be willing to post the Marti? I know a Canadian guy who likes to keep track of Canadian stuff.

You should also email the guy who runs the 429 Registry:

Thanks for the info on the C code, I prefer the J code because I find it hard to breathe with my nose plugged

It's a small world... A friend of mine knew the owner of this car in the early 1980's in Penticton, B.C., it was the uncle of the guy I bought the car from. He just sent me this picture of the car that was taken back then. It was painted light metallic blue after it was red then returned to Grabber Blue. I found red and light metallic blue today when we washed the car.

Wow, what a great find. I had a 71 C code with the 429 drag pack man the car would fly. It was grabber lime green wish I still had it.

Yeah! What did you use to remove the algae?

There's a 71-73 Fastback in a driveway near me. I see it everyday while driving to work. It has been under a car cover for years. One of these days I'm gonna check it put. I love that body style.

Bnice find, BTW.

Re: 1971 Mustang MACh 1, good for parts.

We used a boat brush and water. There is a product called Mean Green that works well on algae, mold and mildew but we didn't need it That stuff works great on vinyl upholstery too.

If you are uncomfortable knocking on the owners door get the house number and send him a letter, maybe he will sell it.

Thanks for all the comments!
