My apologies for not getting the requested photos to Mark in time yesterday so I will post them now. I might add that when we media blasted the car it not only retained 100% of it's original assembly line steel, there was absolutely NO rust anywhere and only one small damaged area in the drivers rear taillight panel. Also, every assembly line grease pencil marking showed up clearly. I have 1641 photos of the car during the restoration so little is left to the imagination. It was restored EXACTLY how it was found in it's mostly original paint so all overspray, drips, undercoating, sound deadener, blacked out areas, interior primers, etc were all matched to pre-existing photos. There was not a single bolt or component that was not completely restored on this car. It is in fact a BRAND NEW CAR. I took special care to try and use assembly line parts during the restoration and not just NOS parts. As far as the stamps and stencils, all were made using the originals as templates and them ink stamped on the hoses. Here are some shots during the restoration.

Here are the chassis shots. I am a big block guy and was under the impression that Flint engines were not painted with the bellhousings attached. However, the original housing on this engine was and after MANY hours of research I found this to often times be the case so it was replicated. All paint inspection marks were photographed before, during and after the part was cleaned and all were duplicated. None were arbitrarily added under any circumstances. What you see it what was there from new.

Re: 70Z28

Re: 70Z28
Wow! This car really came out incredible, very nice Rick. Have been working on the cash to buy this car since we picked it up from the seller and brought it out to you.
The trip out to you is a story for another day. |

PM sent requesting some info please. Thanks.

Re: 70Z28
Wow Rick, that's unbelievable!! good luck with the sale!!
|
Re: 70Z28
Nice documentation, too.

Re: 70Z28
70 Z28, born with and still retains it's original LT1, M22, 4.10 drive train, all original sheet metal, loads of paperwork, original NA9 car and very few owners. It does not get much better than that.

Mark cut no corners on this restoration and every component was either rebuilt, restored or replaced with NOS. He made it clear that he wanted the hidden details restored just as well as the exterior ones even though most could not be seen. All of the painting techniques, undercoating and sound deadener application, black outs, inspection marks and decals, etc were done exactly how they were found. Most of the decals and stamps were made specifically for this car's restoration. Even the under hood insulation is exact and not your typical over the counter reproduction part. The hood and deck lid stripes were repainted exactly as found.

Re: 70Z28
Great work Rick! I love this car.

Re: 70Z28
Amazing, GLWS.

Re: 70Z28
Wow - that under dash shot is impressive. Few restorations can stand the scrutiny of a flash photograph! Well done (not surprised) Rick!!

Re: 70Z28
Lowering price to 90k,which was the cost of the restoration alone. I just can't bring myself to drive the car- it needs to be in a collection. Consider interesting trades +/- that I could actually drive and not squirm about dust getting on the undercarriage. Might put it in the Mecum Anaheim Nov or Scotty in Jan.

Re: 70Z28
Will be auctioned @ Mecum Anaheim lot # S138 Sat aft 11/19
|
Re: 70Z28
Mark,
I saw your car at the auction yesterday. My gosh words can not describe just how nice it is but I can honestly say it is by far one of the nicest 70 Z/28 Camaros I have ever seen and the detail is spectacular. Good luck when it goes through today. |
Re: 70Z28
Only bid to $67K, 'the Bid Goes On'....

Re: 70Z28
That car is truly stunning! GLWS

Re: 70Z28
Mark, all credit goes to Rick. That was a horrible auction-should have just waited for Scottsdale. Ran in to Dave L., sorry I missed you brother!
|
Re: 70Z28
Hi Mark,
It was great seeing you at Mecum's. Your car is awesome and worth twice that price. I didn't think there were any buyers there for cars of your Z/28's quality! If your ever down in this area stop by and check out my Man Cave with lots of automobilia and a few old Chevy's! Mark S. where were you hiding out! I hung out with Dana a few times but didn't see you! I did win the bid for a 1952 Seeburg jukebox and the 1969 Chevrolet Monza promotional go kart! More stuff for the Cave! Dave L. |
Re: 70Z28
Likewise Dave, yeah everyone left their wallets at home that was the last auction they will hold there for a reason. People will bid 110k on a 23 window VW bus but none of the quality muscle got anywhere close. Next stop Scottsdale.
|
Re: 70Z28
Mark, hope to see you when you are out here! Bring the "other" Mark and Dave L. too!
|
Re: 70Z28
Dave and Mark I am sorry I missed you guys at the auction. I sold one of the Camaros but at a loss as I expected. People have lost interest in this auction and the Newport Beach auction for some reason and it is a real shame. Mecum is going to have a new auction in February in Pomona (Los Angeles) and I am fairly certain they will make that one start out strong. Mark who are you going to use for your Z/28 in Scottsdale?
|
Re: 70Z28
Bruce will do! Mark, good chance the car might be sold, if not it will be at R&S at their new location at Talking stick.
|
Re: 70Z28
Sold, going in to a private collection and staying in CA.
|
Re: 70Z28
beautiful car, it must have been a tough decision to restore such a nice car
understand not wanting to drive it now, another tough decision really minor question ... is that a 71 turn signal stalk ... ? |
Re: 70Z28
Cool - congratulations (on both sides!)!

Re: 70Z28
