Cars with Aluminum Slots
Aluminum slots of any or most brands are dynamite on a variety of cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1831738827.jpg

Re: Cars with Aluminum Slots
WOW,,, those are gorgeous ! Those McCreary:s are the 'tits' ....
at first glance I thought the car had chrome reversed with slots only up front ...duh... The white drums, high polished rim, lack of center cap gave that illusion.....till I saw the other pics .... Slots are more pretty today I think because we have show polished wheels on 'Nicer cars' than most had back then. I just can't take the slots off the front of my Camaro, it has big Cragars on the back....( Best of both Worlds). and a lot of guys had mixed wheels, I know I did and as a kid built a lot of models that way......I hope this thread brings out some treasures of aluminum ! |
Re: Cars with Aluminum Slots
Funny... I hated those wheels back in the 80s/90s when every beat-up trailer park 2nd gen Camaro was running a corroded set with incorrect offsets. Now, I think they look really cool on late 60s/70s cars when done "right" as per samples shown above. Someone here posted a black '69 Camaro with slots an L60s a few months back. It looked perfect!

I bought the ones on my old '70 for CHEAP from a goodyear store in crafton that had a lightly used set laying around as old stock. The only reason I ran them at the time is because I had no money for radial T/As or Eagle STs, and my neighbor sold me a set of "billboard" Kelly Supercharger G60s for the rear that almost matched the goodyears. Looking back, they were kinda cool. |

Re: Cars with Aluminum Slots
Couple of guys in Moscow, PA were running this car - sold new as a converted 427 car from Stauffer Chev in Scranton, PA. Car is now in Kevin Suydam's collection.

Re: Cars with Aluminum Slots
I had plenty of rides with slots because they were sooo cool and pretty affordable back then. But after you burned off the rear tires, it was easier to change to the next set of wheels that still had good rubber on them.
Here's my old Nova from back in the '70's. I called it the Armorall Special. You absolutely had to wear seat belts because I used so much of the stuff on the interior you would slide all over the bench seat while shifting gears. My old '68 Firebird was quite the project.... Looks like early to mid 60's Steel backed rolled lip kidneys that the inner face was pebbled with the "hammered" finish, then had the outer wheel lightly polished. ...???? These on the orange car are Fully Polished or 'remachined, then polished..??? enlighten me....please. |

Re: Cars with Aluminum Slots
I remember those tires from the early / mid-80s. Probably the last iteration of any Firestone RWL bias ply.
