Drag strips in the Arlington, Va area.

What would have been the drag strips in the Arlington, Va area in the '60s-'70s?

NHRA Tracks in that area were:

Colonial Beach Dragway in Colonial Beach, Virginia
New London Dragstrip, Lynchburg Virginia
Sumerduck Dragway, Cuppeper, Virginia...1/8 mile
Suffolk Raceway, Suffolk Virginia....great track home of the "Little Guy National Open." Was a concrete air strip.
These are NHRA DIV. 2 tracks.

West Virginia:
Eldora Raceway in Fairmont

North Carolina:

Shuffletown Dragway
Charlotte, NC 1959-1992
Hudson Drag Strip
Hudson, NC 1959-1994

That is also IHRA Country. Gotta dig deeper for those.

A serious racer from that area would also go to Capitol and venture up to Cecil Co.

Has an older IHRA on the side, IHRA Scotchgard/3M series at some point.

Looking at side window, looks like maybe E/EM 4777, maybe E Eliminator? Would the number 4777 indicate division/area ran in?

Correct Verne!!

Capitol
Cecil County
Aquasco

You also had 75-80 in Monrovia, Md.

Re: Drag strips in the Arlington, Va area.

Rockingham, NC. was IHRA and NHRA like many down South Strips were.

How about Virginia Motorsports Park?

The class designation on that Vette does not look like an NHRA Class to me.
The 4 is the DIV # and that would not be an NHRA # because Virginia is a DIV-1 and touches some DIV-2, I believe.

Agree Capitol Raceway in Crofton, MD and MIR (Maryland International Raceway) in Budds Creek, MD as well are very near by that area. Also a 1/8 mile track (Old Dominion Speedway) in nearby Manassas, VA saw a lot of action.

Tom,
Check out this link. I'd call Dick Mackenzie, who's number is on the bottom of the flyer. He may know how to get in touch with Mousie.

Virginia Motorsports Park wasn't built until the 1990's. There was however Richmond Dragway run by Dan Wise. Before Dan opened Richmond he ran Emporia Dragstrip which was at the Emporia Airport. I can remember being there watching Dave Strickland and Bill Jenkins running the '62 Chevy and they would have to stop the races for a plane to land or take off

Stop the races.......just like York US 30 had to at times.

This is not a '62 Corvette.
