Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Any Vintage Lakewood U-joints for Nova for sale? Throw out bearings in vintage Lakewood?

Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Dave.
The truth is.... Lakewood repackaged U joints... The ones I have came from Streetside performance Brute Strength brand are the ones Lakewood uses. $16 vs $58. For the Identical made in USA Solid joint , of course with no grease fitting. Identified by the Red rubber cap seal. Gotta love Lakewood's way of making money on everyone else's dime... Those are Paul's Tow tabs BTW. |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Likewise, I don't think Lakewood motor mounts are anything special either.
Spicer life non-greaseable U-joints are the ones to use these days. http://www.jegs.com/p/Spicer/Spicer-...14756/10002/-1 No one is going to notice whether or not your u-joints are period-correct. Question: When did Lakewood stop punching louvers in the block plates? |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Thanks all for the reply's...don't care about period correct just strong as I run a stick and want no worries. The ones in the car may be Lakewoods from the 70's. Sometime in the early 70's is when they were last changed.

Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
John,
Agree on Lakewood Mounts and other smalls...but its Cool that I have vintage boxes and paperwork. If I didn't know any better I should contact Lakewood for sponsorship and ad campaigns.... Lol I even have seudo Lakewood Velvet touch sintered metallic brakes on it......with their Logo....hmmm The Louvered plates were superceded by a 3 Hole one about 1970 + /-. If you notice on my plate it has a non-round Crank flange hole ,,,which the SBC 's had ....when the 427 & 396 became common place they revamped them to accept the BBC & LT 1 type flanges I couldn't care less about U Joints other than them not breaking. |

Dave 67 Nova Boy</div></div> Do you think they may be "dry' after 40 years ? You're running a D/S loop aren't you ? |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Um....not yet BUT I have an NMW to install.
The u joints have to be! They scare me they have been in there so long! Dave 67 Nova Boy U joint chart |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
The Scatter Shield is old because of the HOLE in the bottom that is used for clutch adjustment,I don't know if the hole could pass tech now.
|
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Correct, the Scatter shield is Pre 1971-72 ?
The sight/gauge hole was outlawed by NHRA & the other sanctioned bodies. Reason #1 The hole could be weak point for major exploded clutch, p-plate & flywheel shards from with in to penetrate the hole and split open the bell. #2 A minor disc or P plate failure, even flywheel teeth from exiting through the hole laying debris on the track. #3 Remote, yet realistict, fluids leaking onto the track/ racing surface. |

For peace of mind, I put a Denny's HD shaft in my '65 Chevy II stick car. Dennys uses the Spicer joints, and they claim a 500 hp rating for this shaft with stock-size 1310 joints. It's a nice piece. A little pricey, but nice. I'm sure I'll blow up the Muncie or the 8.2" 10-bolt before I hurt the shaft. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/c2_h...iveshafts.html |

Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
1969 Lakewood decals shouldn't have the ® on them. The early ones aren't too difficult to find. I don't know the exact year the trademark sign showed up but I think it was mid 70's.

I have early ones now for the Scatter shield.
Technically, most Lakewood parts used 1 decal ! mid - late 70's for the big contingency decals changed. The earlier small ones have the R from what I've found out. The 3 point bolt in loop roll bar came from a 67 Camaro convertible bought new in the winter of 1970-71 and the Red driveshaft loop with 1970 receipt both have the small R decal. I also have J bolt kits with the Big 3" stirrups with R's dated 1974 packages. I personally don't like seeing the R.....but what are you going to do... ? Thanks, Tom |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Thanks for the link.
Yes, you are right about the drive shaft... Will update that at same time. Dave 67 Nova Boy |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Here's a perfect example of variances from supplier to supplier.
These are actual Lakewood Patches. The Large on , a jacket patch for the back. The Medium one for the front chest area and the Modern small one. Notice the color and border variations. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...613_090216.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...613_090244.jpg |

I refuse to have any .com decals on the cars either, even if the decal is cool looking or represents a club... No dot coms on the car... I like what your doing with the Z Tom and I hope Retirement is good to you! Tommy |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
Thanks...
I'm trying. Most every part , decals are Original or NOS and selected for specific parts and early dates available up to 1974. Some are pre -1970. I'd like every Day 2 Add on to be spot on... But safety and durability comes into play and I can't compromise that at 100+ mph... Nothing new / modern , or Dot Com of anything !!! |
Re: LAKEWOOD / NMW Tow Tabs
You guys got it,all that Vintage stuff, and safety too. You have to think before you put some stuff on too.
