Auto or 4 speed? There are different configurations, and bolt pattern types.

Should take the aluminum starter cap. Is this a 1108430 starter?

Re: 69 396 starter

If you have the build sheet it will show which starter was installed. I believe the 430 starter was not used until 1970. I,m currently looking for a 430 for an early 70 chevelle and not having any luck.

Re: 69 396 starter

it has a 430, but I think a 418 is correct for a Feb. 69 L78 turbo 400

Re: 69 396 starter

Donnie if you are in need of an aluminum nose housing just shoot me a PM. Have a used GM part# 1968122 nosepiece. I have plenty pics/no issues.

Thanks,
Sal

Could the 1107365 be on the 69 396 TH400? Any help out there to clear this up?

That starter looks up as a lester number 3560 and should have a cast iron housing. The Delco book says that the 69 396 takes a 1108418 which is identical to the 1107365. Auto or manual the 1969 396 uses the same starter.

Markyodb2 09-27-2017 03:05 PM

Thank you for the update. 1108418 with a cast iron housing. had some information on it being the 430 starter. I am assuming the late 68 build on the nova would have the 1108418 then. Assuming that the 1107365 would only be on 68 and prior.

McCune 09-27-2017 03:53 PM

The 68 396 calls for the 1107365.

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed the thread he was responding to was two years old...

Here are some pics Donnie. This one is for my 69 396 350hp 4spd. 418 cast iron nose. Let me know if you need a different angle.

Dave,
Do you a pic of the restored version in the same orientation as the 3rd pic down?
Thanks!

I have almost 11k pictures, but unfortunately it doesn't look like I have that angled shot. Sorry Kurt. I'll take a look at my hard drive pics when I get home.

MosportGreen66 10-01-2017 03:53 AM

I'm 99% sure that photo is from my eBay page or possibly from a listing here from a starter I sold.

Kurt - what do you need?

Dan

Kurt S 10-03-2017 02:04 AM

Dan,
I'm looking for a nice pic in this orientation. This angle really shows the front housing.

I'm sure you're right Dan. With the number of pics I save for reference, it would be an impossible task to give everyone their credit due. Obviously the bottom one is mine. I must have added your pics after I wrote it up.

Kurt S 10-04-2017 04:26 PM

The starter in the requested pic doesn't have to be restored, but complete is preferred. :)
Else I can use Dave's unrestored pic.

CamarosRus 09-23-2019 11:09 PM

I have a 1108418 9 K 22 (69 Nov 22) Core Starter

Could possibly work fine but at very least needs cosmetic restoration
How can I determine market value or need , before I do the resto ???
