Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
Hello there,
Looking to find out which new Torque Thrust wheels replicate the old ones along with what offset for a stock 69 Camaro? I like the ones with the lighter color gray in the middle vs. the darker ones. I would like to go with 15's along with a wider style bias ply tire. Wondering if a bias in a 60 profile would fit all the way around? Or maybe some folks have gone through this and can recommend a good beefy bias ply tire, 70's would be fine as well. I just love the look of these wheels and always wanted a set. Thanks, Anthony |

Will G60 15's fit all the way around on a 69 Camaro?

Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
The new (past ten years or so) Torque Thrust Originals (TTO) look best to me. American also makes the "crows foot" style of disc-brake wheel that's been around since the '90s. It has a rounder spoke vs. the "creased" spokes on the TTO. Depends on your car's stance and wheel widths as to what tires will fit but a 15x7 wheel would probably allow a good selection of tires. Get the diameter and width measurements of the tire and then make a cardboard mock-up and see how it fits in the wheel wells.
ET also makes a new-design five-spoke vintage wheel as does Vintage Wheel Works (V45). My advice would be that if you went with TTOs you should fog some argent silver flake spray paint over the spokes so they appear vintage. It really makes a difference. |

Here's an old road test of a '69 with American 200S wheels. Note size of wheels and tires.

----Bill,,,I got a rattle-can of knock-off wheel paint from Long Island Corvette and gave a set of new TTs a coat and they looked awesome! I also had the rims polished. Wish I had that set back......Bill S

That is one good looking Rallye Green car Stefano. Is it your's? The white one, too.... Jack Douglas car? Not intending to hijack the thread, just giving credit when due.

The RG COPO is NicKey Continuation Carmaro #002. We sold it while back. The Jack Doulass Yenko is on consignment with us.

Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
Wow! Now that is the look I am after!
Can someone tell me the part # for these or the offset? There seems to be a ton of sizes and offsets to choose from. So with 15x7's what is about the widest bias ply I can put at all 4 corners? My second choice would be to put something a little wider in the back like possibly an E60. First choice being the same size all the way around. Thanks for the pictures and the help!! The car that they are going on is a 69 SS/RS, X22, Hugger Orange, Deluxe Houndstooth, 4spd, 3.73's, with a breathed on L78. It should get picked up next week some time. But wanted to go ahead and order some wheels and tires for it. |

Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
This is an old (actual original) 15x6 TT that was restored. Shot first with a dark gunmetal gray by the wheel restorer then fogged over by me with a rattle-can of silver argent to get that glistening "as-cast" look on the spokes:

It can set your car apart from the others and disguise new wheels as maybe being older versions. |
Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
Bill, those old TTs look awesome.

Those look really nice, thanks for posting pictures.

Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
In my opinion, the team III / ET Classic V looks the most authentic, and they can do the widest range of offsets. Expensive though!
http://www.etmags.com/classic_v.html Look at the picture of the cast 15x7 for a good idea of how they look. |
Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
for what its worth, I was the one that talked one of the previous owners of that white yenko into that tire and wheel setup. You can PM me if you want and I can try to find out what he ordered. That car to me just did not look great in the ralley wheels, and I finally got him to take the jump. I think that car looks great.

I usually go with the new 15X7 American TTOs with the natural finish on the spokes. They have been a little hard to get because of the finish but I have had the best of luck with the fit and quality of the wheels when I put them on a Camaro. Most of the time I run P215/65/15 or P225/60/15 with a little rubbing in front and I have run 255/60/15 in the back with a little rubbing depending on the car but I have run P245/60/15 with no problems. I have had better luck with the new wheels made in China than I have had with the originals because of the thick flanges on the originals.

Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
Thanks Bruce. One of those cars I wish I had not sold. Non numbers matching big block SS/RS that I put a 540 in.

That's the Camaro you were supposed to bring to meet up with me at DD....but something happened...? |
Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
If I remember right I had junk in the gas tank and I got it cleaned out but I had to send the carb back to AED to get it dialed in. California gas does that to a fuel system if you let the car sit around. If you get a chance to use them AED is first class. The part number for the American TTO wheels is VS3095761 I think you can still buy them from Summit or Jegs.

Re: Which Torque Thrust Wheels for 69 Camaro?
Your white Camaro SS looks really nice. Great stance!
Yea, I am kind of leaning towards the natural finish myself. I think the lighter color would look good against the orange paint. The car sits right now with what looks to be 15x8 SS Wheels with 215/60 on the front and 265/60's on the back. The old owner says they do not rub but I will know early next week when I get it. |

Just stellar looking, whew. |
Digging this up from the past.....
I never got around to getting the TTO's and tires but now I am ready. So I think this post shows me which wheels to get. Now my big question is on the tires. Right now I am running SS wheels that are 15x7 in front with 215/65/15 tires and 15x8's in rear with 255/60/15 tires. Tires do not rub and look really good with great stance. But what I am after are bias ply tires the same size as what I have or closest to. Seems like an E60 would match the fronts and maybe a G60 or J60 for the rear? Anyone running a setup like this? Also, if you have pictures that would be nice also. |
You might want to consider the new radial tires that look like bias ply tires. Bill Rose put a set on his Nova and the tires looked great.
|
Yes I would love to have the new radials but they do not come in the a good beefy size for the rear.

I was going to stagger the front and rears using Goodyear Polyglass mounting G60 rears and F60 fronts on 15"x 7" Torque Thrust wheels but decided to keep the tires the same so I could rotate them when needed. This shot shows 7" wheels with F60/15 front & rear. They fit real nice and while I would think one could go with G60's for a bit wider look, I personally like the F60 fit myself. The best price was Summit and the tires came mounted and balanced with cheap shipping. Can't beat them for deals on wheels.
|
Looks super nice! Are those TTO's? I think the F60 is slightly narrower than an E60. But they sure look beefy on your car
The 255's on the rear just look so mean. I was never a fan of the staggered look until I bought this car like this already. |

They are torque thrust D's.
I have these on my 68 as well with the same 15" x 7" footprint but running 255/60 rears and 225/60 fronts if memory serves me correct. I'm getting old and my memory isn't what it once was. Might be off a touch on front tire sizes and too lazy to walk out to the shop to confirm as I'm enjoying my coffee right now. :) Just an FYI on Polyglass sizes. E60's are 7.50 tread width while F60's are 8.25 wide. The G60's are only 8.40 so not much wider than the F series. The L60 is 9.00 wide but they are also an inch taller at 27.99 so they won't fit the fronts. |
Great stance!!

Here is what I am working on.
Need bias ply tires to mimic my current set up. |
Are you kidding me? That car looks "flat out awesome" the way it sits. I wouldn't touch a thing on that car. :)
|
Agree,lose the radials & you'll have me.

Thanks guys!
I think TTO's with Bias Ply tires the same size as what my radials are would look killer. Just struggling with which bias ply tire to get to match up with 215/65/15 & 255/60/15. I am thinking maybe a F60 will be very close to the fronts and a G60 may be a little narrower than the 255's. |
G60 would look alright on the back, but L60 would likely be a better fit being that they are 9.0 wide and match the height on your existing rear tires.
|
This one makes my knees weak if I stare at it too long.
