Re: 1971 z28 weird color combo

Our local dealer ordered a 70 Z/28 in Daytona yellow with a green standard interior. I saw the car come thru town on the delivery truck, so during lunch I went out to the dealer and it was sitting in the wash bay with no trim rings and front spoiler and it did not look very spectacular.

I asked the dealer why he ordered it with a green interior and he stated that they had sold a 69 Z/28 in Daytona yellow with a black interior and he wanted the two cars different.

...and apparently the fact that one was a 69 and one was a 70 wasn't different enough for him.

Seen a few 1969 Firebirds like this, including this 1969 RAIV Firebird ragtop at MCACN.

That firebird actually looks good,i was checking some 1971 paint and trim combos and 71 corvettes had sunflower yellow with green interiors available, but different codes (912 paint and 423 trim). Thanks marc.

Every few months, I encounter something like this on a car forum.

Folks seem to forget the color wheel that they were taught in school. Yellow and green, for the most part, match. So does gold and green.

Hell, think about your clothing - have a shirt that's red and blue? Seems to match for plenty of striped polo shirts I've seen.

Plus one car I can think of, although this leans towards extremes of the two colors:

Remember a 71 SS 350 in the combo which sat in a local junk yard for years...

Re: 1971 z28 weird color combo

Sorry, maybe its just me but I can't own or drive what might match on the color wheel, green/gold, nope. Add brown and it's a never.

My very favorite NASCAR racer color scheme of all time. Petty Blue and STP Day Glo Red. From what I've read when the Pettys were first painting either Richard's dad, Lee's, car or Richard's first one they had blue paint and white paint but not enough of either to paint the whole car so mixed the two colors and it came out as what we all know now as Petty Blue. 1972 was the first year Richard had STP sponsorship so they came up with combining their Petty Blue with STP's Day Glo Red on Richard's Plymouth and later Dodge Charger, and the rest is history. I have rarely been interested in NASCAR since Petty retired in 1992 or 1993.

Proteam has a '67 Corvette that's Lyndale Blue with red interior on their site now. It is a documented car that I've seen. It's very pretty.

That car is pretty sweet!

I think I may have seen several dark blue/red '63s. I think it may be a traditional sports car combination?

The most popular colors for kitchen appliances in the late 60's and most of the 70's were Avocado and Harvest Gold. Perhaps a female had some influence in this purchase.
