Yenko Clone stolen
|
Re: Yenko stolen
Legendary Motors did have a Yenko in the same colors about 10 years ago, it had another Copo vin'd motor in it at the time.

Re: Yenko stolen
Not that its any less of a bad deal, but is it a real Yenko Camaro? Just from what little I can see from the picture, it has the wrong headrest seats. Way to early of a design for a Yenko, that I believe could not have been built until late February early March. If its an X44...BKH

Yenko stolen
Anyone know more of this car and its history? Whatever the whole story is, let's hope the crooks are caught! ~ Pete Below news blurb from this link... http://www.wellandtribune.ca/2016/03...welland-garage - Topic on YellowBullet, reading it makes a fella appreciate this place even more... http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/sh...php?p=47187842 <span style="font-style: italic">- "...Ian Hill's 1969 Camaro was stolen from his locked garage in Welland, Friday. Police are asking anyone who has seen the vehicle to contact them. Handout/Welland Tribune/Postmedia Network Even if the 1969 Camaro Yenko is painted a different colour and its serial numbers are changed, Ed Wiens would recognize it. “Even if it was half-way around the world, if I had five minutes with that car I could tell you if it was my car, seriously,” Wiens said. The “very rare” car, worth more than $100,000, was stolen Friday morning from a home in rural Welland. Wiens bought it about five years ago as part of an estate sale. It had spent years forgotten in long-term storage when he found it. At his business, Wiens Automotive in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Wiens repairs and refurbishes classic cars for customers. But the Camaro was Wiens’ personal car, and he spent his weekends meticulously restoring it until it was in pristine condition. “I brought it all back to the way it should be,” he said. While it was equipped with a racing engine, it was never used on the track. “The car’s far too valuable to actually get out and racing,” he said. But the car still managed to collect numerous trophies at car shows. It was scheduled to be in the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsport Expo in Toronto next weekend. It was hard enough to sell it a few weeks ago to Welland resident and car-lover Ian Hill. But at least Wiens knew it was going to someone who would appreciate it as much as he did. But Monday morning, Hill called him with bad news. “I had no idea what was going on, and he called me this morning,” Wiens said. He said Hill sounded depressed during their conversation. “I figured he hurt the car or something. I asked: ‘What’s the problem?’ And then he told me,” Wiens said. Hill said someone smashed a window to get inside his locked garage. “I was preparing the car for the show in Toronto this weekend,” he said. “It was on a car hoist off the ground. They lowered the car down, they stole the car trailer and some parts out of the garage and the car.” Hill said the trailer was later recovered a few blocks away from his home along with some of the missing parts, but the car has not been recovered. Although the car was insured, it’s not like he can stop at a showroom and buy another one. Wiens estimates that there are only between 200 and 300 cars like the Camaro in existence, and even fewer in the same condition. “That car is really nice. It’s a real pretty car. All the numbers match. It’s a damn shame,” he said. “To try and find one of these cars,” said Hill, “it’s way more than the value of insurance. “The car’s irreplaceable. But I am more distraught that someone broke in. It’s the violation of privacy.” Wiens doubts the car will be dismantled and sold for parts. It’s too valuable. “They wouldn’t strip that car. That car is very special and it’s worth more when it’s all complete,” Wiens said. “That car is probably headed for parts unknown in one piece.” But it will have to be shipped a long way from Niagara if it is to be sold. “If the car stays anywhere within a certain radius, it will turn up. It just depends on whether they were very smart or the typical stupid thief,” Wiens said. “It will be very hard to hide. It has to go a long distance in order for someone not to notice it, because everybody knew that was my car.” The theft of the car was a discussion topic on ontariorodders.activeboard.com website where a member posted: “Ian Hill’s enclosed trailer was stolen here in Welland from his home Friday morning. Inside was a ’69 COPO/Yenko Camaro and race car parts.” Niagara Regional Police issued a media release Monday asking anyone with information about the theft to call police at 905-688-4111 ext. 3314 or to contact Crime Stoppers..." Re: Yenko stolen
One article says it was a clone. Other stuff says real. A friend contacted me maybe two weeks ago asking how to tell a real Yenko as a guy in Canada was trying to sell him a blue COPO-Yenko. I got the vin and it was nowhere the list. He did more investigating and saw where something had been altered on the paperwork. He tracked down a previous owner in Oklahoma or Texas who built and sold it years ago as a clone. Asking price was about 100K ? I have the vin somewhere. I wonder if this is the same car ?

Re: Yenko stolen
The vin on the clone a guy was trying to pass off as real a couple weeks ago was 124379N691195. I can't find in all these posts the vin of the stolen car.

Insured? Yes. Hmmmmmmm.....

Re: Yenko stolen
This sucks for Ian. BUT from what is being reported, this isn't what the usual theft that a native does? They usually just smash and grab, not spend the time to load up, take a few blocks, and dump EVERYTHING. There are far greater rings then that of our natives.
Also, the article above, Ed Wiens and Ian BOTH stated that that this car is insured for far less then what the replacement could be had for? That is a bit of a concern if that was one of my cars? I wonder why that is? Are they saying that this, maybe a "nice" clone, was significantly then say a legit/real Yenko?? The funny part of this, (if any of it is funny) is that Ian bought his racecar '69 Camaro off Donnie Hill. A full blooded native that until he was married, lived on the rez. AND BEFORE any of you think anything, DONNIE would never have any involvement in this, he's a great guy and a friend to most and has offer to, or help plenty in this hobby. |
Re: Yenko stolen
... Has anyone that knows this car ...listed the vin number so we can watch for it? ... I think this car will show up .... at least I hope so for the owner |

Yes. Please check my post.

Re: Yenko stolen
Yes. Please check my post. I have altered documents, photos and have listed the vin #. If this is the same car... and I believe it is, this site and some intense research save us from buying a car that was offered to us as a REAL Yenko for $110,000.00.
Thank you, Charley for making this site available to us. |
Yenko Clone stolen
Here's your other post below and welcome aboard Brenda! Same Vin Charley posted earlier also really great to hear you discovered the trickery in time. Whatever news report names you're referring to, best keep in mind that the car was stolen from a recent purchaser who at this point we should refer to and consider only as an innocent victim. Whether duped into thinking they bought a real car or not, hopefully they're truthful w/ their insurance adjuster being values of genuine Yenkos and Clone cars are VERY different things. Again whatever the whole story turns out to be, let's hope they catch the crooks! This is, as you can check, NOT a Yenko. I believe this is the same car that was offered to us a few weeks ago for $110,000. After we did a extensive amount of research and found that most all paperwork had been altered including the Orginal owners name and address. Contacted orginal owner he stated that it is NOT a Yenko ,he built it as a clone. He is in no way connected to this deception of this car. The names of the stolen car,in the news report today,....just happen to be the same ones trying to sell it to us! "STOLEN" ????? </div></div> |
Re: Yenko stolen
Unfortunately, I do. I have listed vin. # on earlier post. Please contact me for more info.

Re: Yenko stolen
Thank you, Pete. That is exactly why I didn't refer to any certain name.
I think my husband should buy my dinner....I just saved him $110,000.00 if this is the same car. |
Re: Yenko stolen
altered documents doesnt sound good

Yenko Clone stolen
Nicely done Brenda and it sounds like you're up for an expensive dinner! Being before the theft also expecting it has nothing to do with it, it'd be nice to see the hokey paperwork/altered documents posted here w/ innocent names obscured where necessary? Re: Yenko Clone stolen
Bill in Texas built the car as a clone and showed it at Super Chevy etc. Won many awards. Sold it about 1998 as a clone. A Police detective contacted him today and he set him straight. He had it at SYC 1.

No. Bill Feidler

Re: Yenko Clone stolen
Bill left me a message the other day that he heard back from Police that the car had a appraisal that said "It might be a Yenko" and was valued at 125K. It was bought for 35K though and that is all the Insurance Co is willing to pay.

Re: Yenko Clone stolen
This is not the first time this has happened with this car. Bill was at SCR1 with his car, with a sign clearing stating that it was a clone. He later sold it, and shorty after that I got a call wanting to know about the car, if legit, etc. Seems the new owner had sold it, or was trying to sell it, as a real Yenko, using a pic from SCR1 as proof.
|
Re: Yenko Clone stolen
Is that the guy that was told to set up at the opposite end of the field from all the real ones?
|
Re: Yenko Clone stolen
Yes. When he and I discussed him attending, he agreed to park away from the real cars, and put a sign up stating it was a clone, which he did. A nice guy who was always upfront with me. The problem with the car arose after he sold it, and the next owner used a pic of it in Super Chevy at the SCR as proof it must be real. That is when I/we decided it best if we discouraged clones/tributes/replicas etc attending the reunion.

Yenko Clone stolen
All appears so but can someone please confirm the stolen car is indeed the same Clone and Vin Charley and Brenda both posted here earlier... Clone VIN 124379N691195 ~ Pete |
Re: Yenko Clone stolen
Same person was trying to sell it to Brenda.
|
Yenko Clone stolen
Expected so but now the smoke's cleared, I thought it best clarify this VIN is the stolen Clone. Please correct me if wrong but unless found recently, this stolen clone is still missing. ~ Pete |
Re: Yenko Clone stolen
It seems in the piece where he talks about how the car was stolen that he really pumps it up that the car is a genuine Yenko. Almost feels a little fishy
|
Wonder what ever became of this?
