COPOPETE Shootout
 

I am very excited to announce that during our track day at the SCR we will be hosting the first annual COPOPETE SHOOTOUT. This is our way to honor the memory of one of the true spirits of the supercar hobby, and Pure Stock Drag racing, Pete “COPOPETE” Simpson.

The COPOPETE SHOOTOUT will be ran bracket style, with the winner receiving a special traveling trophy, theirs to proudly display for one year.

I have been in contact with the host hotel....Holiday Inn....and I can confirm we have special parking in an enclosed white fence area (same as last year) for our trucks, trailers and cars. This area will have security lighting on for us each night as well . We also will have hotel security on foot during our stay. Thanks everyone

I just received a pic of the traveling trophy that we will be presenting to the winner of the 1st annual COPO Pete Shootout!
This trophy was made by our good friend Shawn Huffman. The winner will take it home with them but must return the next year where his name will be placed on the base. Then we will all try to win it again!
This is one of the coolest trophies I have ever seen. We are very proud to be able to present it to the winner.

I think Pete would be happy to see people out there doing what he loved. And I believe the shootout guys had a blast running them out. Bracket racing without electronics is a pretty equal race even for those who don't do it often.

Maybe, a fitting tribute to a man who loved drag racing. But maybe even more, a lasting memorial to a great guy who left us way to soon. Dru, and Kurt had a good final. But as I said on the Facebook post, Pete would have chuckled, and said, &quot;you're all lucky I wasn't there&quot;.

The smiles on Kurt and Dru's faces tell the story. They had FUN. I'm sure Pete enjoyed every second of it. Probably laughing his butt off at some of the 'less-than-perfect' passes. Hopefully, ..... someday, ...... there'll be a Simpson competing in the Shoot Out and, just maybe, that Trophy will rest in Ontario for a while. Yeah, ... that would be pretty cool.
