Wow that sounds awesome!
I use Central CT Coating in Hartford, CT. While not within driving distance, they do beautiful work. http://www.centralctcoatings.com/ Dan |
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Man - that Poncho sounds great! What is the rest of your exhaust after the SS headers? I have done a bit a research on this. I have a set of original M/T SS (thanks Tony N. aka "scuncio") that I want to do the same with. There is an outfit in Youngstown, OH that will put a ceramic coating on your headers and then apply the VHT Flameproof ceramic coating (SP114) over top of this. He used to have a one-step process that the Supercar Workshop boys used to get that is no longer available. Grady B. ("1969grb") has used these guys and may chime in. I know that is a haul for you but you may be able to find someone local willing to do the same.

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
As Sam said, I have had the fellows in Youngstown do two different sets of headers. I could not be happier with the finished product. One set has been on my red 67 for quite a few years and are holding up great. Same process done on mine except that they are white.

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Thank you all for the Replys on the Sound..i'm quite happy with that...Mockingbird812 & 1969grb...is it possible either of you could explain the process you are talking about?it sounds like a ceramic coating ..(What Color?) is applied then regular VHT then applied????.the headers were brand new (bare) and sanded....then sprayed with VHT primer and then Vht ceramic orange...but it didn't last long and they turned yellowish...so,both of you have had your headers done by this process???...if so..what color..they have black, grey, satin black, silver and white available around here...but i want orange...do either of you have a phone number or email for this outfit??i would really appreciate any information to help me get orange.......anybody out there have orange headers, please chime in..i can't possibly be the only person wanting this...Thanks again for everybodys input and help....

Ohhh...Mockingbird812..i have 2 1/2 " with an H-pipe going into a dynomax crossflow muffler..thanks

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
The process that he uses puts down a ceramic coating directly on the headers and THEN the VHT on top of this. Give him a call.

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Great thread as I have a pair of M/T-SS that I want to get recoated. For any of the processes mentioned does the inside get adequately coated as well as the outside...obviously just spraying VHT from the can will only coat the outside.
|
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
I'm not sure you need the same type of protection on the inside as the outer. Plenty of carbon on pistons and headers/ manifolds.
|
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
I can't recall the exact process that new image powder coat uses but ceramic coating on the inside as well as the outside of the headers sounds familiar as reducing temps to the outside is the goal.
|
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
I talked to Jim Kolbrick from New Image today...he didn't say anything about the inside...basically told me they spray a silver ceramic on the outside cure it.....and then i believe they etch them afterwards in a cabinet ...(not sure what type of media) ...and then spray the VHT and bake it..he says the ceramic holds the heat in and the VHT colors it..claims to have good luck..hope i got that process right....seems like a nice guy....Mockingbird812....did you get yours done in Orange???????...anybody had theirs done in orange,.. from New image and how's it holding up???????

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
I would have thought the headers would rust from the inside out due to the water vapor bi-product of combustion...does anyone coat the inside of their headers?...mine are originals and would like to keep them around as long as possible.
|
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
I have not had my headers done yet (altho I plan to use these guys). Grady I believe has had them done this way.

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Here are what my Dad's headers look like. They are Hooker's bough at Shaw's Speed Shop cira 1973ish. So at least 40 years old and holding up just fine! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...825_172311.jpg

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Nice looking headers. What process was used on them?
|
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Wish I could tell you more about the process. I know it was a silver ceramic base 1st, then a white top coat.

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Thank you ,Darrell for fixing that link and i for sure will let you know Sam, Thanks

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
I don't know what they are charging for headers but $45 for a turbo housing including prep seems crazy cheap.

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
i'm pretty sure Chris told me $150.00, but please check if you are thinking about sending them a set

just got my replica set of the M/T Super Scavengers back from Stainless Headers, thought you might like to see...thanks |
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Those look great! The VHT always looked a little too bright in my opinion, but that orange looks pretty close to original. I have a set I plan on doing for my Buick after I work the dents out. Curious as to what the cost was.

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Thanks John..$150.00..for the coating,...shipping around 140.00..good luck with yours....Mike Carter

Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Mike,
Stunning! - thanks for posting pix/price. Did they coat the entire inside of the headers also? Will they work with you wrt the glossiness of the coating? I was hoping to get a dull luster to my headers. I am wondering if once the headers are put thru the heat cycle a few times, if the luster will become more dull. |
Re: M/T Super Scavengers .Orange ceramic coating
Hey Sam,Thanks, from what i can see it's coated inside, and i'm not sure about the shine, i would imagine if you call and talked to Chris, he could help you out as far as your questions, in fact i'm wondering myself..here's the number 800-290-3920...later, Mike
