1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Purchased new in San Francisco, spent the entire time in sunny CA until purchased last year. Two owner RT, still wears the original factory paint and interior. ZERO RUST, the car is amazing with many factory markings still present. LA built car, 383/4 Bar with Automatic, Optional 15'wheels date coded to the build date. Car runs and drives outstanding, just had the original power steering gear box rebuilt to include new hoses, water pump, trans seals, etc. It has "whiskey dents" from over the years but is amazing how the original paint still shines.

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
OK, i must be living under a rock - what the heck is "It has "whiskey dents" from over the years" ??
|
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Eddie
Slight scratches & dings on the bumper & body after the driver had a few too many.. |
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Ed -- you have to admit as "youngsters" we did some really goofy/stupid things, like OMVWI or DWI ... so "Whiskey Dents" are damage done to a vehicle due to drinking and driving or hitting something ... TAZ

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
That's a great car at a great price, true survivor...but I can assure you that is NOT the car's original spare wheel and tire.
|
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Believe tire is dated Dec of 1969

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
A 383 Challenger R/T was not available with either F60 tires OR a full size 15-inch spare. The correct tire size for a Challenger R/T 383 equipped with 15-inch wheels (which is incredibly rare in and of itself, they are normally 14-inch wheels) is E60 15.
Your car should have a collapsible spare or possibly a 14-inch full size spare. Your ad says "upgraded" to 15 inch wheels, so I guess it did indeed have 14s? Have you found a broadcast sheet for the car? What you have there is a combination of wheel and tire that is probably out of a B-Body: Roadrunner, GTX, Super Bee etc. and is worth about $1000-$1500 to the right person as it has the rare '450' steel wheel. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-ta5_copy.jpg OR F70-14 full size spare: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...aretire003.jpg |
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
neat stuff !! Always learning here !!! why was the 15 not available w the 440 vert? I assume the conv. top got in the way?..but it was available w 383 vert? hmmmmm... a weight thing w space saver spare?
back to this beautiful car !! I vividly remember when my next door neighbor came home one day after trading his 70 Judge for an RT 440-4 speed, yellow w/ the side striping...I was about 12-13 years old....he took me for a ride... I instantly became a Mopar fan !!! this car with original paint is a sweet survivor !! GLWS !! |

</div></div> NO e-body Mopar originally equipped with 15-inch wheels was available with a full size 15-inch spare - only a collapsible. The trunks in them simply did not have the room for 15s. Further, if your car did have 14s on it and was equipped with the twin rear speaker option OR rear defogger you also had to have the collapsible spare -not a full size 14 spare as there was, again, no room. |

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: ryanbowtie</div><div class="ubbcode-body">THANKS Tracker1, good information. The car was LA built 2nd week of Feb 1970, I can not find build sheet but I understand LA cars may have not had one. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-sam_1022.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-sam_1038.jpg </div></div> Without the sheet, there is no way to tell for sure what came on the car. But January 6th, 1970 (according to your wheel date there) certainly puts the wheels close enough to the car's "scheduled" production date of Feb 5th. Now when it comes to collapsible spares, there are stories of new Cuda/Challenger owners popping the trunk at the dealership and telling their salespeople to "get that s#*t out of the trunk of my new car and get me a real spare please!". To which some salesmen would respond by raiding another car on the lot to get a full size spare to toss in there. It happened. |
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Man, cars don't get any drier. What is the number in white on the wheel well?
|
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Cool - are front disc brakes pretty rare for a 383 car?
|
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Wouldn,t this car have the r/t emblems on the front fenders under the challenger emblem? My 70 vert did?
|
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Cool ride,
Damn you  want this car! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-img_1489.jpg  |
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor

Tried to trade it towards my 71 cuda? This yellow car sounds nice, although I am not seeing full body shots and it makes it hard to really appreciate it. Maybe there are in this thread and I am missing them or something... |
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Yes... I sold that Sublime Green 'cuda survivor a few years ago. Mopars like this just keep catching my eye! You still got your black 71 'cuda?

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Now your talking!!! Good suggestion from Blac69. This car sizzles with full shots with a nice back ground. You'll have this car sold in no time!!!

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Is that 23 thousand actual miles?
|
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
Wow, that is a great car! If it was local I would be all over it. It is in Texas correct?
Is paint original? |
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
hum...I thought all 70-71 challengers had to lose the rear exhaust out the rear valance for use in California, and had to run drop downs right behind the panel. I have seen 2 hemi cuda's that way for 70, maybe its just a hemi rule.
|
Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger RT - Survivor
It may have been due to the Cuda's cutouts being up, in the valance? The Challenger's tips were technically below the valance.
