How Day 2 are hood mounted gauges?

We were running hood mounted gauges in the late 70's and they are still on a few friends cars.
I was wondering are they a true day two look for 69?
The cups we were running were black would that still work for day two or should they be chrome?

Thanks

Bernhard

Four Chrome Cup Gauges centered over the hood grill opening with a black plate under the hood for support......is the look

Many mechanical fuel pressure gauges were mounted on the hood or cowl -- NHRA rules I believe ... TAZ

You couldn't have a mechanical fuel pressure guage inside the car for obvious reasons if the line broke: you'd be filling the passenger compartment with gasoline. Very scary!

Benjamin and I were just discussing this last night for his Nova, we will do 2 SW Green Line gauges on the cowl with chrome cups. It might not be exactly '69 Day 2, but the kid thinks it's cool - so we will do it!

Mine has a couple gauges on the hood still from BITD. I know mine is more like Day 22, but it does reflect what was going on in the 70's.

Run chrome cups. Not aware of any gauge company making black cups back in 69 other than Sun would offered a black tach cup but all the gauge cups were chrome.Auto Meter did not come out with their oil/water/fuel pressure gauges until 1973 and only black cups where available by AM back then.

I do have a complete set of early AM gauges all nos. Early 70's stuff with the fat bezel and correct lettering

Sun actually did make black painted cups for blue and green line 2 5/8" gauges. I have a couple of them NOS. GCB-1
If you have any rusted chrome cups, they can easily be stripped and then painted or powder coated. I like chrome myself.

Here's a shot of my Nova back in the late 70's. I had 5 gauges and a MOROSO Tach on the dash and the FUEL PRESSURE outside !!!!

Hi Jason,
You can see the build thread here on Steves Nova Site.
http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums...hlight=1966rat
I actually drive it around the neighborhood !!!! No windows or lights LOL.
I took a little break from it since I got it back, but have gained back a little interest and have been tinkering.
I need to get a few small things welded and then take it all apart for paint. UGH

I see you sell some NOS Sun stuff. Do you do any restoring/fixing tachs ?
Thanks,
Dominic

Sorry for the delay in response. Awesome Nova! I am into vintage gauges but don't do much work on them.
