Re: L89
----There is some dealer paperwork that purports the car as having (I think) some sort of clock radio. This is absolutely false. I bought the car from the original owner in 1975 and that car was ordered without a radio and had none while on my watch. I believe that Joe Hrudka of Mr.Gasket fame, the third owner or his son had the radio installed, but I'm not absolutely sure. I'm glad Charley has the car and sorry I ever sold it, but bills had to be paid back then the same as today.
----Straighten out the seat belts, Charley! Then go out and take it for a spin. I think you will like it even more then......Bill S |

Re: L89
----I don't think so, Jake, as I sold it just before I moved up from Florida. You are remembering the white 69 we dropped the 454 with tri-power in to. We went to the Car Craft nationals with you and Birdie in the 409.
----Guy,,,Only two have ever been confirmed and one of them will never be seen again. There is supposedly a third but it is very suspect .....Bill S |

Bill: You are so right! Those were good times!
Do you remember the night we were coming home from Dukes? We ran off the cars on Rt. 83. Stretch and Emo in his LS6 Corvette, you and Marty in the fuely '63, and I was in the 409. |

Rick Just curious, where does that 400 # come from ? Mike </div></div> Tonawanda records. </div></div> Rick, I believe the Tonawanda records show units "shipped", and not necessarily to assembly plants for production installation. Example. Tonawanda records show over 15,000 '62 409s shipped but only a little over 8,000 were installed in cars. You would need to find Chevrolet records showing how many RPO L89 options were installed in '69 models. Verne |

Yea...the race was really between me and Stretch. I thought for sure he would have beat the 409 with that nasty LS6 Corvette, but.....the old girl was really hauling ass that night and all he saw was my six taillights! |

You would need to find Chevrolet records showing how many RPO L89 options were installed in '69 models. Verne </div></div> Chevrolet reports,of the 412 L-89 optioned Chevelle engines received from Tonawanda in 1969: 333 were coded KG for M/T 12 more were coded CKG for M/T 402cid. 66 were coded KH for TH400 1 more was coded CKH for TH400 402cid. ---------------------------------- 412 Total L-89 engines received 400 Total L-89 Chevelles assembled 12 extra engines were left for Service 97% of this Tonawanda engine production went into Chevrolet vehicles. |
Re: L89
----Charley,,, That "Joe" would be Joe Hrudkas kid. Right around this timeframe he bought a chain of Dairy Queens in the greater Phoenix area, hence the address at the bottom of the add. I had a chance to buy it back then as well but didn't have the scratch. The original tires were long gone by then as the original owner installed bigger "Sonic" tires almost immediately after he picked it up at the dealer. I might have put the Goodyears on (memory here is bad) but I'm betting that Bill Lipay, Joes buyer and an old friend of mine from Barberton OH took the Sonics off and found some original style Goodyears......Bill S
|
Re: L89
I sold those Goodyears a few years back. They were genuine, but carried a later 70's date...not born with to the truck.

Re: L89
----That would make perfect sense, Big. Thanks!.....Bill S

Re: L89
----Tell Charlie that as he ended up with it. I do at least like knowing its in safe hands.....Bill S

Re: L89
There was a Dairy Queen here in the Phoenix area that always had an Indy Pace 69 Camaro parked in front of it....same guy?
