1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
I wanted to share some pictures of a 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed convertible I was lucky enough to be able to purchase. Car was ordered from a Gm employee who worked in Detroit MI, It's pretty much as unmolested as they come. The only thing that the original owner had changed was the shifter. Car came with a very nice original build sheet and a protect o plate as well. It goes to show this stuff is still out there

Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Very Nice find.
More pictures & details if you can. Is it code 55 Champagne Gold, code 58 Autumn Gold,or code 63 Desert Sand? Because it was ordered by a GM employee,I'm very interested to see the buildsheet if you can please post. You can cover the VIN up. What month was it assembled in? Full gauges? Positraction? ...back story of the car? |
Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
When I get home in a couple hours I will post some pics of the paper work that I got with it it's a code 63 desert sand car.

Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Impressive Ver Hoven paperwork. And a rare T60 optioned R79W battery car too.
Typical February build with it's later bubble reverse tail lamps. Nice that it's still holding it's console car hot/cold air deflector intact. Wish it has factory gauges, but still a desirable car. |

Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Looks like L A Stawecki class A.
I was wondering if it would be hand written or typed,as I've seen both. |
Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
What does class a mean? Was there different classes of pricing or can that indicate how high up that person was in Gm?

Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Take it to MCACN just like that...the gang would have a blast
-wilma Cool car...good luck |
Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Did I mention it still runs and drives? LoL .... I mean I wouldn't go far with it, been sitting since 1992 with a little work file points gas etc it fired right up and i drove it off my trailer into my garage .. even had a little pedal left not much lmao
|
Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Not exactly sure what class A would mean, but like you said, imagine it would have to do with billing/status.

Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
How does one find a car like this? Very, very nice
|
Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Excuse me if I missed it but was the car still in Michigan when you bought it.
|
Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Congratulations on a very nice find Rob. Looks like a great project and being unmolested makes getting the details right so much easier.

Congratulations! Nice Find!

Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Love that it has what looks to be a GM trailer hitch on it . I might have a correct factory shifter for you with the same patina .
|
Re: 1970 chevelle SS396 4 speed project save
Sweet. Not a lot of Ver Hoven stuff left.

just a few updates
This was the first time I got it running after cleaning up the points... http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...pscuudluql.mp4 before I started cleaning I had to see if the radio worked ...... I think the car was trying to tell me something Lmao http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...psnawngszg.mp4 found 2nd build sheet under rear seat http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...psntn6jrii.jpg I got the windows and top down, don't mind the super mess in the garage its not always like that.... http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps5vnt6xm1.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...psgc673vkr.jpg It looks kind of scary under the hood its really not as bad as it looks, after fixing a dry rotted tank rubber line I was able to get the car running off the fuel tank. It really runs good for as long as its been sitting http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...psy8kanl31.jpg |
Cool car , great paperwork.
I'm curious how GM handled the employees purchases? I see they still went through a dealer. Assume there were discounts? Also what's different on the build sheet to non GM employees cars? |
Looking good, never seen a non-stereo rear speaker in a convertible.
|
What a great Chevelle! Congratulations, she's a beauty.

Just saw this one for sale, good luck, already going for strong $$.

Patrick Glen Nichols was advertising it for sale on Facebooks' CHEVELLE OWNERS page for $50,000.00 a few weeks ago.
The majority of guys replied they thought the asking price was out of bounds & no where near it's true value. He had to keep defending himself saying he & his business partner had numerous offers near 50K and that it was worth more then that. This went on back & forth for days, until finally PGN announced it sold for $45,000.00 and no one there knew what they were talking about. Now it's for sale on eBay and he deleted the entire Facebook topic with it's 100's of replies. I see it's being sold from New Jersey,as the owner here is also from New Jersey,so maybe it didn't really sell as PGN said? |
Hot Rod article said Rob Feasel was the owner back on May 26th 2017..

Great car featured A few times in my club even before the Hot Rod Magazine write up.
Patrick is a great guy and so is the owner of this SS. I wish him luck in the sale. |
It is definitely a great car...and if you're gonna restore a 70 BB convertible...there aren't a lot of original cars to choose from.
|
Back up for sale, this time via a new owner in Oregon....

The text in the ad talks about "none of the salt rust damage of the midwest"
Looks pretty rusty to me. |

To think I know where there is an original 70 Chevelle like this. Its BB 4sp convertible white with black guts sitting in a barn with hay up to its doors. Sitting on an old wood barn floor. Needs a full restoration but it sure is in clean condition. Not sure what motor is in it, but it was a BB SS and a convertible. Owner Not for sale! He also has a 67 Chevelle numbers matching BB 4sp convertible sitting besides it. Again not for sale.
I tried to get a price out of him but he wouldn't give one. I was going to make him an offer but really didn't know the value at the time. |
