mel bogus camaro

Does anyone have any early pictures of the Mel Bogus gold yenko Camaro? What wheels were on it when it was being used as a demo? Rallys?

NEATSS 06-06-2017 01:12 AM

I know the guy that bought the demo Yenko from Van Chevrolet in the summer of '69 at the age of 17. He claimed the miles on the car and the price were were about 1k apart but he couldn't remember which was higher. Something like 4-5k or 5-6k..... He couldn't remember which. He claimed the car had cheater slicks on it when he bought it and the first thing he did was put on all new tires. The first time I saw the car was when school started in September of '69. He parked in front of school everyday. At that time the car was wearing a set of very dark almost black five spoke mags. I don't know if he bought wheels when the new tires were put on or not.

Cool info. Guy doesn't happen to have any pictures? Sounds like it was the Mel Bogus car. It lives here in Iowa now.

All pictures were lost in a house fire late 70's early 80's. Sorry....

Was that the only gold demo car there was?

cook_dw 06-07-2017 12:01 PM

I do not know if there were gold demo cars other than the Mel Bogus car pictured and sold thru Van Chevrolet and the prototype car that Ed Hedrick drove for the magazine test car. Cliff owned the Bogus car at one time and still owns the prototype car. The Bogus car appears to be in the first 20 cars ordered and is a 01B X66 car.
That is a picture I took yesterday here at the Albaugh Collection .

16 is you are talking none vettes and 17 if you include the one pedal car vette. I THINK its a 57. Hard to tell.

61 vert 06-08-2017 11:56 PM

I believe you are correct!

The corvette pedal car is a 58 so, 14 in the row, 1 Black 57 in the other row and 1 black 57 pedal car. Good Job.
