My '69 Chevelle ran this back in the day:

Yes to the M&H Cheater slicks 9.00-15 which are 29 1/2 " tall and fit real well and fill out the wheel well nicely (as can be seen below). Wheels could be steel wheels and could be 15" Vintique62 series. Jegs carries both.

This is how my car looked at the drag strips in VA and NC back in 60s early 70s. Notice beneath the car that the rear exhaust pipes are hanging off the lower bolt hole of the headers...

that's the look, perfection

day2killa 06-13-2017 12:54 AM

do you know what back spacing

mockingbird812 06-13-2017 01:00 AM

I do not know. Will have to research that.

Hey Grady - you got yr ears on?!!!!!!!!!!!!

I probably would use a 15x7 with a 4 or 4 1/4 backspace. Should have plenty of room.

Mr. Day Two has spoken!!!

As luck would have it, the Vintique wheels listed here ( http://www.jegs.com/i/Wheel-Vintique...34044/10002/-1 ) are 15x7" and have a 4 1/4 backspace.

Thanks Grady!

I bought a pair of the repro steel wheels a few years back. I did not notice that the center hole is over sized on the repro until I mounted the tires and put them on the car. It did not look right to me.

Which manufacturer did you buy Bill?

I don't remember who the manufacturer was. I am sorry I can't be more helpful. Although the wheel pictured in this thread appears to have the oversize center hole.

thanks again

The Wheel Vintiques series 62 wheel definitely has the oversize center hole.

You should be able to find plenty of GM OE 15x7 wheels w/ 4.25 backspace if you are patient, as they came on 70s monte carlos and also 77-90 Caprices with the optional suspension (F41?). I have one spare from a ~73-74 Monte Carlo, but one wheel won't do you much good.

Wheel Vintiques are lug-centric wheels and many have had vibration issues using them because they are never truly centered. I was told that Ricks or Year One has some repro wheels that are hub-centric and believe Newstagia Wheel also reps a line with hub-centric rims. Might be worth looking into or you could have some balancing issues and vibration.

Original rims would obviously be hub-centric but I'd have them trued up if running slicks. Hope that helps.

years ago I ran stock 15-8 corvette rallies with a set of 28"tall by 12" wide M&h racemasters. my outer lips are rolled. but they fit easily.

Yes 15X8 rallys or 15X7 rally's work fine!
