Photobucket 3rd Party Photo Hosting!
Until now I have been using Photobucket's free 3rd party hosting (photo linking) service. I just received notice that its now only available as a $400 per year subscription - wow. I prefer to use linking vs uploading photos to the site however I need another solution! Suggestions?
|
Ditto that for me. Every photo that I've ever posted has disappeared without warning. I appreciate that Photobucket has offered this service for free all this time, but I don't think it's right to wipe out all my "posted" photos thinking they're holding me ransom. Not a good way of getting new business.

Just trying to help . . .
Here is the website - it's free. You don't even have to create an account: https://postimage.io/ Here are the choices you have for linking/posting a photo https://s26.postimg.org/d5fpzcktl/screenshot_4752.png This is what you will see if you use the HOTLINK FOR FORUMS (1280X1024) https://s4.postimg.org/kdgjj2ksd/image.jpg |
I've used Flickr for many years - Top notch, dependable and free :) Link in signature

I use Flickr and SmugMug.

All of my photobucket photos are still there?
|
I like Flickr too.

James Mine still works |
I post plenty of pics and noticed my signature pic went away.
I may start using Google as they are pretty reliable. Where are some of these other 3rd party image host guys gonna be in 10 years? Sucks to lose the old threads and pics- but honestly i'm probably not willing to spend more than $20 a year to keep 'em- so the $400 ransom ain't getting paid. Gotta wonder how they arrived at that number? |
Got this email from Photobucket this morning...
WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING* TO RESTORE YOUR 3RD PARTY HOSTED IMAGES, PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN. Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level. UPGRADE NOW |
photobucket not working for me. irritating.

I've been running w/ Fotki for close to 10 years and it works fine also seems cheap enough? I seldom use it also usually upload images here directly to the site as they seem to last waaay longer although aren't easily manipulated once uploaded now like they were before the recent update. :beers: ~ Pete . |
Same thing happened to me. I can't imagine many people will caugh up $400 per year when there are lots of other options. Photobucket owns a few other hosting sites as well so be sure to avoid those when switching.

I hate the fact our options are to shift to a new host AND the nearly 20 year old forum loses many of the pictures in a significant amount of it's useful threads.
The other option of paying $400 annually ain't gonna happen. I would considering paying something though. |
I hate to say it but that is one of the reasons I began to uploading directly to sites. Got tired of pb over a year ago and started going this route. Only other option I see is to have your own website to link from.

So many threads with historical data on them here & on so many other boards are now useless!
Thanks Photo Bucket!!! |
I moved to Flickr last year. Too many issues with Photobucket. They're digging themselves a big hole with this kind of crap.

From what I've been able to determine Photobucket is rolling out the 3rd Party Hosting policy in phases as some members report receiving notice from the company later than I did. I don't mind paying Photobucket a reasonable subscription fee for hosting my photos maybe in the range of $50 - $100 annually however $400 per year is neither economic, competitive nor reasonable. In the meantime hundreds of my photos and tens of thousands of others that were posted to this and other forums are potentially lost as most forums don't permit modifications to posts after a predetermined period of time.

well thats not good..thanks for letting me know

I was just NOW able to Log onto PB and see my many albums......
WHY am I not having the trouble as others are ??? I have a paid account that I want to cancel. |
its about hosting..all of my stuff is still there, just any links i have to them are blocked by PB on forums
|
I like Imgur. You don't even need an account. It's great.
You just upload (don't even need to publish) and copy the image link. |
I received the same message from Photobucket. I won't be paying that much for their services. They've really gone down the tubes in the last few years as far as speed and junk ads. I'll be happy to say good bye to them, but am disappointed that so many of the photos I have posted will not be able to be viewed in the future. All good things come to an end, this is no exception.

eventually were all gonna miss our "Kodachrome"... when hard drives fail, thumbdrives get lost, websites crash and the "cloud" holds your stuff ransom, we'll all wish we could open that envelope full of glossy's and negatives.

Amen to that, Tommy.

Update. I've been investigating alternatives to Photobucket and experimenting with a couple, here is a partial list that I've reviewed, both free and subscription based:
Amazon Prime, Cubeupload, Dropbox, Flickr, Fotki, Google Drive, Imageshack and there are several more. The hosting service I am gravitating to is Flickr. Its owned by Yahoo, is a free service, easy to use and intuitive, allows you to size/resize and edit photos. No doubt there are other good choices however Flickr is turning out to be a good alternative for me: Flickr hosted/linked photo: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4286/...08d8625f_b.jpg |
I use Flickr for my non-car photos. They even host RAW images. Been happy so far.
|
I went through this several years ago with Webshots. I had many pictures of rear end parts that I used to help people figure out what parts they had, what the gear pattern should look like, what broken parts look like and other things. I had pictures linked to thousands of posts, but now none of those pictures are there. Webshots was free, but then they got greedy and started charging for their services. I wasn't going to pay for it, so now all of my links are blank.
|
Thanks for your posting, the days of free image hosting may be short lived. According to Photobucket's press release, advertising revenues are no longer sufficient to support the cost of their free hosting infrastructure and service. This realty may find its way through to the other image hosting providers who rely on advertising alone. I was quite willing to pay a fee for reliable, robust and secure image hosting, maybe in the range of $50-$100/year however when Photobucket changed their terms from free to unlimited image hosting and storage to a $400/year subscription (and nothing in-between), it became uneconomic.
|
I can't imagine who is stepping up for the $400 a year subscription. Especially when it was a sneak attack with no notice. What do people use photo hosting for if its not "3rd party" hosting?

It figures....LOL
Lots of pics gone....Though I have every one backed up on CD :) |
What would it take for THIS site's software or server to be able to accept pics
directly from a member's PC with no 3rd party hosting........... This is what nastyz28 now has and its so very easy to insert pics along with your text. |
That is already in place via the onsite attachment function.
