68 Dana Z28
29 Attachment(s)
I want to say thanks to Brent396 for posting a heads up on the Craigs list ad on this site. Was advertised as being a special color orange sold Dana Z28 that had been sitting for 30 years. The guy selling it said people did not believe it was a orange car because the trim tag says it was British green. He showed me enough pics to convince me it was indeed orange and the order sheet even had the special paint code for the orange written on it. Protecto plate and a gm document list Dana and last night I got word back from NCRS that the dealer was Dana. Has orig engine, trans ,rear, no sign of any green paint anywhere that I can find so far. Looks like orig. exhaust. This car is very solid. Same orange that is on Kevin S's 427 68 Dana. This is fricken cool. Car just arrived awhile ago.:CharleySucks:

This makes the 4th Z that I know of built on 12D from the LOS plant.. Congrats & you suck. :beers: http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.p...1760#msg141760 When did it leave the plant? 12/20/67? |
Wow! Back to the original color?

Wow Charley, I had a feeling that was a special car and we all saw it but you knew enough to buy it. So what are you going to do with it? With that original color I could see a set of 15" magnesium 5-spokes on it.
|
Cool Charley-Bringing it to MCACN for the barn find area?
|
Congrats Charley. Glad to see it got into good hands! Yes, frickin cool!!!
Did you happen to grab that Dana hood that Mike Kaiser listed for sale? That hood would be a terrific addition to that car. |
Congrats Charlie, great pick up.

I have a call into who I think is the orig. owner in Socal. You can see the black stripe on the old paint under the new paint where they got the stripe wrong.
Even has the 1111266 dist . |
That's a neat car, way cleaner than it looked in the pics. Congrats....
|
Now to find a pair of real Dana plate frames!
|
CONGRATS Charlie... you want to sell it?
|
Great car, Charley and congrats on bringing it home.

Seems to be a reaccuring theme.. What is the date? |
Hard to read but looks like 7G20.
|
The odd part about this is my co worker has a car that was said to be a 68 Z and we have found this same shade of orange under the door cards and it has a -- trim tag
|
Congrats....
I agree it looks better in these pics. Rich |
That's a great car Charlie. I was half tempted to go down and get it myself as it was only 12 hours away. Looked at the pics when it was posted and thought real hard on it. I'm glad it went to someone here.
Can't wait to see it cleaned up. |
68 z...
Now we know what he did with the money he got for selling the website :rolleyes2:
Great looking car...good luck..and by the way... :CharleySucks: |
Dang, I wanted that. Congrats. I knew it was legit.
|
Yes that's the original color.
The Z paint code was still used for special paint when that car was built. They did not start using Z for British Green until that paint color became available in January 1968. - - for special paint started January of 1968. |

I left a message for the guy I was sure was orig. owner but it wasn't him. Tore into the car more today. This thing is amazing. Found a 1967 dime inside a 1/4 below the 1/4 glass. Found a Kodak Viewmaster disk and a notebook in drivers door.

trans had duplicate tags bolted together upside down. Rear wheel lips are rolled. Vin was stamped on top of trans.
|
Nice find! Looks like a perfect candidate for a Super Car Workshop restoration.

I'm thinking the holes in the cowl panel were probably to mount some type of gauge.
|
Two transmission tags? Don't think I have seen that before.
What's the date on the 1111266 distributor? Not unusual to see the partial VIN in top of trans for a LOS car. |

.....code 516 is Omaha Orange, Orange and Tangier Orange.
|
Thats the third 68 Z/28 I have seen in that color. The non striped Grabiak Z and another 68 DANA Z/28. In addition to Kevins DANA 427, I believe the Dale Armstrong SS DANA drag car was also Omaha Orange. It must have been the go to color at DANA...BKH
|
Car was ordered in December but not sold until Feb 6 so I'm guessing Dana ordered it for Inventory and not a customer order.
|
I think the dist date is 7G20
|
There is a picture out there at DANA that shows a 68Z sitting in front of the dealership with a DANA logo on the door. Its a black and white photo, BUT I think its Omaha Orange..BKH

They sold quite a few special paint orange Camaros in CA back in '67 and '68, not just through Dana but through other dealerships as well. Definitely one of the most popular special paint colors out here along with silver.
|
Wow it has a lot of paperwork!!
