Water pump rebuilding

I just got off the phone with Bill Mock & Arthur Gould. Mock is twice as much for his service than Gould. Gould is 1 year & Mock is lifetime. Any input on either service? It's an 3969811 just for the record. Thank you, Joe

Gould

Gould did a couple for me and quick turn around

McCune 08-07-2017 06:23 PM

How does one get a hold of Gould?

I got frustrated with a VENDOR (NOT to be named Not bashing) service provider a few years ago. I worked to find a source for the internals and built special tooling and used 3/4" sockets etc and my 10ton press to rebuild my own. It has taken a bit of trial and error Oh yes some goofs.... Nice to find dated cores at swap meets for $30.oo,,,Just a sample of DIY.

Local NAPA here does them and even takes pics to assure you get the same unit back.
$69 each and 3 week turnaround.

Easy to rebuild but tough to find long pump parts.

jl8z28 08-08-2017 03:47 PM

There was a guy at Carlisle who was selling the parts even had the old parts book to look them up

SS427 08-08-2017 04:56 PM

Damn. Didn't catch his name did you? I could use about 10 rebuild kits.

jl8z28 08-08-2017 05:35 PM

I'll look in the bag of parts I may have gotten a card

parkbrau 08-09-2017 05:54 PM

Give this guy a call, he does all kinds of water pumps and will make a rebuild kit for you if he does not have one on the shelf:

How much does Gould want to do a w/p?

X66 714 08-13-2017 11:48 AM

Kurt. Gould quoted 95.00 plus shipping. 1 Year warranty. Mock wants 225.00 with a lifetime warranty to build your original. Mock wants 325.00 for an outright purchase. Lots of casting dates on hand. This pricing was quoted for a 3969811 (396) pump. Both say they use only US made replacement parts..Joe

McCune 08-13-2017 03:17 PM

I sent mine to the guy in Texas. They quoted me 65.00. I will post when I get it back.

You make me VERY nervous pressing bearings in that way. Those ears are very thin wall and will snap easily. Better to support on the rear cover surface.

Jonesy 08-14-2017 07:33 PM

Art Gould has done at least 4 water pumps for me. Every time I got them back within a week. I think the price I paid for small block pump was around $65 plus shipping, but that was 5-7 years ago. They did great work. Prices may have gone up a bit since then.

Sent my pump out and got it rebuilt and back to me in about 10 days. Cost 69.50. Happy with the service and price. Shipping back and forth cost about 34.00. I used these guys as suggested here.
