Can't wait to see this one!

chevyman0429 08-24-2017 04:26 PM

Very cool

L78M22Rag 08-24-2017 05:08 PM

What a cool looking car! Whatcha gonna do to it?

I can picture it... leaving the body and paint alone, but with all the missing trim and front bumper reinstalled, a fresh interior, nice wheels with good rubber and a wicked drivetrain! But that's just me. Looking forward to whatever you decide.

The Boss 08-26-2017 07:57 PM

Cool, along for the ride.

RST 08-27-2017 04:35 PM

Great story and I hope you are able to do what your dad wanted to do.

I was just wondering something. Why are there no back up lights below the rear bumper? Was someone doing a RS conversion on this car? I also noticed that the front lower valance was a different color.

scuncio 08-29-2017 02:46 PM

Great story, sounds like your dad was a great guy.

Ryan1969Chevelle 08-29-2017 04:56 PM

The sentiment is not lost on me.

I am behind you 100%.

I would love to plan a work weekend some day to help!!

(Keep me in mind, I take crazy car guy trips all the time)

My experience is limited, you won't want to book me for anything shiny.

Ryan

Great car to restore Darrell, and glad to hear it was the one your dad wanted to do after all those years chasing it. Do it right and build a bulletproof 302 with the plenum breather under that hood.

big gear head 08-29-2017 08:06 PM

What does it look like under the hood right now?

big gear head 08-30-2017 01:52 AM

Do you have the 302? I missed out on a '68 4053 DZ carburetor Saturday for $150. I was holding out trying to get it for $125 and another guy bought it while I was working on the seller.

big gear head 08-30-2017 11:57 AM

I can give you the name and number of the guy who bought it if you are interested. The base plate has the usual ear broke off and some of the choke parts are missing.

A12pilot 08-30-2017 01:42 PM

Awesome, Darrell! Good on ya making it a tribute to Dad. Enjoy the build. You know how it goes...frustration and elation rolled up into one Shove it a Down your throat financial mess sandwich!:dunno::3gears::headbang: But, it's all fun and as you clean each part your Dad will be right there with you! Looking forward to the build!

Cheers:beers:

Dave

Very cool car to do

L78M22Rag 08-30-2017 05:38 PM

Darrell,
Thanks for posting your story about your dad and this car that he had such a connection with. I sure enjoy hearing how dads and their sons enjoy the hobby together. Should be a fun build. I know you'll make him proud... and us too.

bbbentley 09-19-2017 12:27 AM

Class act ^^^^^^

Zman1969 10-03-2017 06:45 PM

Darrell, great story and looks like it'll be nicely done. I'm guessing you dont want to say what your plans are with it :( I will watch along and what drew me in was the mostly original paint so few made it this far!

cook_dw 10-31-2017 07:21 PM

A12pilot 12-19-2017 12:17 AM

Looks great Darrell! There's standards on this board?!? Uh oh.....I wasn't aware of that! You mean to tell me I've been posting all along and nobody informed me I had standards to uphold!?:shocked:

Oh boy....

But seriously.... awesome work Darrell!

Cheers
Dave

Yeah, when I told some of my friends that I Was going to MCACN they asked me if I was taking my car. I just laughed and said that there was no way my car would fit in at that show.
Darrell, the distributor looks great. What are you going to do about the rusty clips and brackets?
Dave, your stuff is right up there with the best of them.

John 12-19-2017 02:58 PM

... Darrell, You really brought that tach back to life

... Looks great

... Glad to be of help in getting that picked up and sent to you :flag:

cook_dw 12-19-2017 03:08 PM

Thank you again John.

If anyone is interested to know what I used on the housing; it was not media blasting. Aluminum wheel cleaner (Black Magic was what I used this time), a green ScotchBrite pad, SOS/Brillo pad and elbow grease.

big gear head 12-19-2017 04:38 PM

I think it would be great to see the green car at SCR. It's not a car show, just having fun with what we have. Well, actually Saturday is a car show, but so what. Yours can sit outside with mine.

Rumbleguts396 12-19-2017 07:54 PM

Be proud of the work you are doing on your own. There's no better feeling than having someone stop by and chat at the local cruise nights to say Hello and Nice work. Knowing you turned your own wrench. Rob

L78M22Rag 12-19-2017 10:14 PM

Darrell, I like the work you are doing... looking good!

I happen to think the "green car" kicks a$$!

JRC99 12-22-2017 10:31 PM

Mark that down as 3. The Green Car is perfection on four wheels.

Xplantdad 12-22-2017 11:18 PM

Hey Darrell...it all looks great :beers:

DW31S 12-23-2017 01:43 PM

I, too, tend to do as much as I can on the old cars. Perfection? Not really what I strive for; more interested to see how good I can make it with what resources I have available and can afford. I'm just a hard working guy with a passion who appreciates what it takes to own, and sometimes race cool cars.
Great story and better yet that you intend to honor your Dad's wishes. Keep up the good work and please post progress reports.......And Merry Christmas!!!

bergy 12-23-2017 01:55 PM

Your work is great Darrell!!!

You're a good man!

BTW - cant help but wonder about the anti-tip bracket next to your multi-drawer to the left on the bench. Was that an "I'll get to it." type of thing? ;)
