We now own a very, very, very, VERY small piece of Texas! We bought 10 acres outside of Walnut Springs in a new planned multi-acre community. For those that don't know, Walnut Springs is outside of Glen Rose. Glen Rose is famous for Dinosaur State Park, which some may have heard of. That, in turn, is about :30 minutes to the SW of Grandbury. And Granbury is about :40 minutes SW of Ft. Worth, which is about 953 miles SW of the Stevens Convention Center where MCACN is held..... just to put it into perspective:hmmm:
What's this all mean? Kelly gets horses in the backyard, and I get a shop that will visible from space! I'm coming up with plans for a multi-stage building with a parts room, metal room, bodyshop, paint booth, and a clean assembly room. This should encompass 6 of the 10 acres. Oh... they'll be a house on there somewhere too! :rolleyes2: Bad news? I'll be broke so there won't be any cars in the shop...... but it sure will be clean and nice!! Cheers Dave |
Dave,
Congrats to you and Kelly. It will be fun to build the house, shop and stable. And, even more fun to use it all. Looking forward to the "property build". Phil W. |
Very cool! Congrats to you both :)
|
Congrats
Space... what is that? Ryan |
Conrgrats!! Looks like a new and exciting stage in your life.
|
----Just remember, Dave, just when you think you have enough square footage, DOUBLE IT!!! When we designed my garage I said "perfect". I now have three other rental storage areas.......Bill S
|
Awesome Dave!! Congrats to you and Kelly
Rich |
Very nice.....does this mean the '78 Y82 Trans Am is on Hold for a long time :-(
Dan |
Thanks guys! We're pretty excited! Oh no, Dan. That's the beauty of this. The only down time I'll have in building the cars will be the actual move to the new house. The builder we've selected can do everything we want, so when the time comes to move in, everything will be ready to go!:burnout: Well.... that's the theory, anyway. You know how some builders are... Mustang will be done late Spring and then it's onto the T/A.:headbang:
Thanks for the well wishes! Cheers Dave |
Very exciting Dave.....I love all your builds......but I am really excited to see your Trans Am come to life. I will have many Smokey and The Bandit excerpts day to go :D
Dan |
Congratulations!
|
Congratulations! Look like a nice flat spot.
Jason |
Congrats! That’s awesome!
|
Thanks guys!! Hardest part...financing?:hmmm: Naaah......finding a builder to do everything?:hmmm: Nope.......Finding a floor plan that Kelly and I can agree on?:hmmm: That was the easy part!(she told me what I liked:biggthumpup:) No...hardest part is figuring out what fence to get with a horse that is a fledgling cribber! Which.....she's not actually cribbing, she's mainly just gnawing out of boredom. So I'm thinking if I teach her to block out a car real nice and straight, maybe that'll cure it!:rolleyes2::thumbsdown::thumbsdown: Talk about REAL horsepower!!! Ehh....I know...sometimes I don't come up with very good jokes. Darrell...QUICK!!!....we need one of your patented GIF bombs!!!
Cheers!:beers: Dave |
So when is the party/car show and BBQ gonna happen :beers: congrats on a life long dream and future.....
|
Congrats!
|
|
Congrats on the land. That is the next item on the wife & I's list. Land, then shop then house.
Oh and here you go. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20140305155948 |
----Dave,,, We found and renovated our dream home so I know just how big a deal this is for you both. The construction will probably try both your patience's but you will get thru it and come out the other side with huge smiles on your faces!!! Guaranteed!!!........Bill S
|
Ahhhh..... thanks Darrell! I can always count on ya!
And Bill....no doubt it'll be a stressful process, but it'll be fun all at the same time. The end game is everything we want right outside the door! And yeah.... we'll have a car show/ BBQ/ pool party to celebrate. Although I don't know anyone there so it may be kind of small. Maybe after i get to know the local car guys I can assemble a little impromptu show! I don't think it'll rival MCACN... but with the turnout, I'm sure to win Gold!...:hmmm::biggthumpup: Cheers Dave |

We're moving forward! Soon the population of Walnut Springs, TX will not be 860. Oh no...it'll be a census-breaking 862!! 864 if you count the two horses. :scholar:
Anywho, we settled on a builder and after sitting down with my Crayola "big box" 64 color set, we designed our lot with about twenty different changes until finally we got the design perfect. Once the soil samples were taken, the well went in and power shortly followed!:headbang: Once this lot plan was designed, we proceeded to lay the driveway out on property with those little flags that construction guys use to mark utility lines...or the police use to mark crime scene evidence. Either way, it's marked! Now, me being me and not wanting the concrete guy to come in and not understand where everything goes or somehow misread my flag layout, I proceeded to Lowe's and bought a YardKing 3200 22" 3hp mower with side discharge shoot and proceeded to mow the entire driveway out by hand. Yes, the grass was 3ft tall and yes, spiders are really, really big down here, but the end result was a perfectly laid out driveway so the concrete guy could come in and lay down the crushed concrete base. Did it take two 9hr day's? No. It took 3 10hr days. :confused2: So here's some pics of the land with the last shot being an aerial view of the driveway base laid down. Also, having 10 acres, we're gonna need tractor junk and such. The first step is a John Deere commercial grade Z915E zero-turn mower. And i'm telling you... these things are fun!! I couldn't get Kelly off the thing! So back to the hand mower went. Hmmmm....I know there's a hidden joke in there somewhere:thumbsdown::burnout: What's up next? We're buying an RV to stay on property and the foundations for the shop, barn, and paint booth will be going in this month. We'll be breaking ground on the house by the end of the month! :eek2::eek2::eek2: More updates to follow! Cheers Dave PS; of course I need to get a MCACN plug in here, so sporting the offical t-shirt, we went hiking at Meridian State Park and took a selfie. Now, this area is famous for Dinosaur fossils. I'm hoping to discover a new species called the "Daveasaurus Rex" and make millions! But somehow, i'm thinking they may not happen so I'm keeping the day job! |
Are we all invited to the house warming party? ;)
|
The heck with the house... I wanna see the show palace......err... I mean the shop and paint booth. Oh yea, and the horse house...
|
But, of course! I'm planning hosting a Mini-MCACN-Super Car Reunion-Yenko.net show to end all shows once done!:cool2: Bee on the lookout for invitations! goggles I'll be offering free, same day motorized horseless carriage travel from Dallas' new Ft. Worth Aerodrome! :burnout: With rare enclosed climatized comfort!:eek2:
More updates the follow in the coming months. They'll be timeless instructional threads such as "So you decided installing a fence yourself was a good idea" and "Tractors: Not for people from New Jersey":frown: Cheers Dave |
How cool!:headbang:
|
Looking absolutely great!!!
|
Dave...I see a modern day episode of Green Acres coming.
|
Thanks men! Modern day Green Acres, huh? Maybe, Doug. I am a crazy Hungarian, so that part is taken care of! :eek2:
Cheers Dave |

You'll need a small telephone pole that you have to climb up to use your cell phone...when the need arises! :)
|
Way cool!!
|
looks great, Dave!!!!! Cant wait to see the finished product!! Congrats!
|
This is freakin awesome Dave. Really happy for you and your wife. You are just 4.5 hours away (3 if I take the turbocharged Bimmer) from me. Can't wait to hear the full story. Curious if you found a used paint booth. I have bid on a couple, but they always bring more than I am willing to spend.
Keep us posted. |

never heard of these booths until yesterday, when a buddy told me about them. Doesn't seem bad for an occasional paint job, and you wouldn't permanently loose garage space https://www.ebay.com/itm/26x13x10Ft-...IAAOSwh81bdVQ~ |
Dave
I am curious how you got the overhead shot of your creative grass mowing? Drone? Or "this is your captain Dave,we are doing a detour today from our usual flight plan to conduct a low flyover a part of Texas" Houston ATC" You are off course by 500 miles" |

Dave would make a great neighbor. Always something interesting happening at his place
|
Ha! Thanks, men! This is such a dream of ours and I can't wait to have everything in the backyard.
Lynn.... come on down! Your BMW expertise will be needed for the 507 build and i'm sure there may bea photo op in there somewhere! As for the aerial shot.....it's just a matter of opposite aileron and rudder called a "slip" and a massive wing down movement' "Whooooaaa...sorry ladies and gentlepeeps... looks like a little unexpected turbulence! You know, that one I always tell you about on my announcement and you never listen to? :hmmm: We know you have a choice of airlines, and looks like today you chose the wrong one" Actually....it was a drone, and it was shot by our neighbor across the community. A cool thing for the scrapbook!:cool2: More updates next week in regards to the paint booth, shop, barn, and such educational films as: "Cactus, your thorny friend." And "Hotwire: good for more than just animal fencing!" Cheers Dave |

In continuing on with the Rancho-del-Molnario documentary, saga, and reality show, last week saw two major milestones: an RV on property and an 80% completed wellhouse structure up! :cool2:While Kelly was out mowing the pastures, I grabbed my sketched out plans and set forth to build my wellhouse/lawn shed. After numerous trips to the hardware store to get stuff I didn't need but bought anyway, the last trip finally put the stuff I needed in the first place in the bed of the truck! So I was off and running once I got home. Then it rained, and rained..... and rained. But when the sun came out, I set out to build the wellhousiest wellhouse around! :headbang:
Now, the idear here is to follow building codes, put stuff 16" on center, make stuff level, and square up edges. But that's easy. I mean, then stuff fits correctly on the first go. What's really challenging is having to cut every piece individually since nothing lines up, isn't remotely level, and square? HA! Yeah....square. Anywho, doing that easily adds another few days to the build. And we all have extra free time and most importantly, love gambling with the fact that you've avoided personal injury so far that surely the longer the build goes on with point things the less chance there will be to get scraped/cut/bruised/slashed/bashed.... right? RIGHT Moving on, you'll notice that the foundation was built around the well and tank. All of that will be moved over to the section that's floored once they install the filters/ softeners and then I'll come back and finish off the open section. That part will also be covered and insulated for the winter. We get freezes here, but it doesn't last like Northern climates do. So as long as it's insulated, no heater necessary. The final result is a base structure that's in primer awaiting the final exterior trim, windows, paint, and stone. I'll be doing a metal roof too. More to come with such memorable moments as "What was that old saying? Measure once, cut until it fits? " and "5/16ths is about half of a half, right? ":dunno: Cheers Dave |
I deviated from the original design a little, mainly with the door size. Originally the zero turn mower was going in there but then decided to just keep that in the barn. So a smaller door was perfect.
And since we're in the country, and in Redneckville, I decided to use that pick-em-up truck as the extra ladder extension I needed! Does that picture belong in the "You can't make this up" thread!?!:dunno::cool2::stupid: Headed up this week to hopefully put the final trim on!! More to come... Cheers Dave |
So you are not only extremely talented at car restorations, but you can also do construction work, and you are pretty good at writing and it seems like you can also fly an airplane fairly well. Is there anything that you can't do? :dunno:
