Help with Engine detailing 1969 Nova SS

5 Attachment(s)
I am looking for help with the proper details on the engine bay of my 1969 Nova SS.
The original owner did detail it back in the early 1980's usung the wrong shades of black and added "dress ups" such as the chrome valve covers and aftermarket intake. I have the originals and will install them soon.
I welcome your thoughts on the Proper details
Thanks in advance...

Here are a few items to consider;

-hose clamps should be the 'tower' style

-master cylinder shown appears to be a 70 style...69 is shaped like a bathtub

-battery cables need to be changed...also, not sure on 69 small block, but I believe the neg. cable bolts to the block, not the alt. bracket..??

-water pump bolts should be painted engine color

----What Tom said, plus, correct looking master cylinders are all over the place, but you need the correct stamping on the machined edge up front. Tom should have an idea what the two letters should be. As well, it would be good to find one dated within the correct parameters. Makes it a bit harder, but ultimately better.
You may already have the correct washers and bolts for the valve covers, but you might not. Ditto on the intake manifold bolts
Can't quite see if the lock tabs are on the exhaust manifold to engine bolts, and are those bolts correct?. The tabs may or may not have been used. I'm not up on Nova stuff anywhere near as much as Tom.....Bill S

I think I snagged this pic from earlier L48 threads on this site.

I believe that is a Site members car when he picked it up new from the Dealer.

The heater hose fitting shown on your water pump should not be painted. Add engine lift brackets.

Is this the engine lift bracket? Should the hose go thru it?
THANKS

These markings were added by the prior owner.
Should my car have them?
I believe the firewall paint is original.

Yes.
No.

Looks like his negative cable goes to the thermostat bolt which is correct.
Those PBT stamps were used at Norwood, so those would not be correct.

Looks like your brake booster hose is too long so cut it shorter.
Should be a clip on the top of the alt bracket for the neg wire??

That old pic really shows alot!!

I believe the hose from the power booster is the original one, I will check for markings on it.
YES the clip on the alt bracket is missing whereas the alt bracket was repainted. I did buy one for it and will install it. ALSO, there is no bracket that holds the heater hoses to the alt....I also bought one of those. Should it have one? I do not see one in the original picture BUT I have seen them on original cars ANYONE know?
THANKS

not all had the heater hose bracket. Look at the picture of the original motor in the above post.

YES That would be very helpful.

The photo of Joe's motor on the sales lot is dead on. Looks to me, other than paint, the red car has had alot of massaging. Are you trying to go back to bone stock on everything RAII?

Other than engine details the car is as it left the factory. AS stated, looking for engine details. Post some pictures if you have any.

Salvatore 01-15-2018 02:32 AM

Mine looks like Joe's looks. The SS 350/300 engine is basic with no chrome except the air cleaner lid. Pretty much Chevy orange. Not alot of detail as the Z/28 or the L78 motor.

I see you are new today to the site, (Sam) Welcome aboard.....
I actually saw that link to BJ when I saw the car advertised here for sale.
The car IS mostly original paint and shows it as well as the interior and bumpers are factory original too.
GREAT original car!

hcode 01-17-2018 09:23 PM

very nice car indeed, but it didnt bring what i thought it would at b-j years ago, probably because the seller told them it had been repainted,i just thought how odd someone could make that kind of mistake.
