Stolen!!

From FOX -- Five cars stolen from Hot Rod Power Tour attendees in Charlotte ...

Wow. Considering all the cool classic cars that usually attend that event, I wouldn't consider these 5 cars stolen a high target. Sorry to hear it though. Really puts a damper in the activities.

I wonder if the ease of stealing 90's GM vehicles is why those ones were taken.

bobm67 06-12-2019 07:10 PM

When I first seen this on WSOC news I thought the vehicles were stolen for their drive tran.

The expensive cars are all bugged these days.

Vehicle trackers are cheap and you can hide several in a car.

The crooks know it

jdv69z 06-12-2019 07:36 PM

So what's a good tracker for a 60's muscle car without the modern ports used these days?

Wire one to stay hot under the dash.

Small battery units in the quarters and under the seats.

Then there is the passive systems that are not active until scheduled

This is why the crooks park the stolen car in a public area for several days before they take possession.

LOJACK Systems are good and effective. They are hidden on the car and when the vehicle is reported stolen the device is pinged to law enforcement who can track the vehicle location.

During the 90's, it was fairly well known that a GM product ignition could be accessed by breaking the collar of the column and from there there was just a slide switch of sorts that you put a screwdriver on and pull forward to emulate the key being turned. The columns were easy to break and not alot to protect them from theft.
Note....I did towing for an auto body and saw these frequently., I was not a car thief

mssl72 06-14-2019 05:22 AM

That exact thing happened to my sisters car. They broke the collar and away they went. She did get the car back luckily.

One year I hid an inactive phone in the Chevelle that I fully charged. I took pictures of the serial number on it, in case I needed the local authorities to ping it.

Recently, I keep an active phone hidden in my car. Probably not the best security but at least it’s something.

Anyone have lojack? Website talks about dealer install but not interested in trailering car an hour for that. I emailed to see if I can do it myself

Mr. Chevy 06-15-2019 03:27 AM

Bill, I work with a representative from Lojack. I believe they will come to you for the install. I can get a definite answer for you if you like.

One of the cars had it' steering wheel removed, but was still taken...…. A tow truck was probably involved....

Why I sleep in hotel parking lots while friends & family are up in the room.
