1972 Chevy "Mod Bod" Decals

3 Attachment(s)
Hello!
I'm looking for any further information about these dealer-installed optional decals from Chevy, specifically the "Flame by Chevy" El Camino.

I've attached pictures of an original Chevy mailer brochure and a zoomed in scan of the El Camino. There's also a picture from the 1972 Chicago Auto Show where the Mod Bods were featured including a 1972 El Camino SS with the flame decals.

There are very, very few pictures out there of the El Camino so if anyone has additional pictures I would be very grateful if you could share them. I was lucky enough to pick up a set of NOS decals and would love to have a reference car.

Also you may have seen some of the "Eagle" or "Hawk" C-10s as they were fairly popular, as was the "Feathers" Blazer.

ive seen all versions of the blazer a few diff times. had no idea it was named anything special...cool...learn something every day here

maybe the van..but none of the others...the van looks familiar...but I cant remember any of the others...

72heavychevy 06-17-2019 04:57 PM

Happy to share!

Yes the Blazer seems to have the most options, if you notice the description below each vehicle it lists all the vehicles the decals fit. The El Camino is an odd ball since it only was available with the Flames yet it was different than the Blazer/Pickup/Suburban Flame decal option!

I was able to find one production car picture that wasn't from an advertisement! Also messaged the original owner on ChevyTalk and he said it was a salesman demo car.

Luke,
I ran across this 2-page ad for sale on FB.

Thanks for that!

I've been digging more and more into these and have now found a handful of different ads. Most are featuring the Blazer or C10 but I'm still hoping to find an El Camino specific one!

The first one below is a '72 Chevy Truck mailer, while the second one is very similar to one I posted previously but is a different layout. I like the "Wild New Put-Ons From Chevrolet" slogan!

They sure are difficult to find! Hope you can snag it one day.

Also for those interested, I found another ad/article from the November 1971 Motor Trend magazine highlighting the "1776" Mod Bod decals on a Suburban. Never seen good pictures of this decal variant before!

I don't know if this qualifies since it's from GMC and from 1970s.

Very cool! Not technically a "Mod Bod" but very similar styling for the graphics

I've seen those too! Would be great for an old '72 C10 someone has, too bad it's missing the tailgate panels which say "Eagle By Chevy"

I‘be never seen the flames package but I do have a nos Eagle by Chevrolet decal kit including the missing panels from the eBay auction. Hot rod magazine did a build in the 70’s called “the tomato of independence” that I think used some modbod decals.

Mrtoni 10-06-2019 09:44 PM

I also had a set of the gmc Eagle decals but not complete I sold for $100 two years ago

Wow, how cool! I've never seen a real picture of the van with the decals.

Awesome you still have some of NOS Eagle decals, if you're interested in selling them please let me know!

Mrtoni 10-09-2019 07:03 PM

They are for sale. 600

This 1972 Blazer wears a Sportbird decal on the glovebox. Judging by the art-work or graphics, perhaps this one wore similar decals back in the day? Its not listed on the glovebox option list.

Very cool! Yes, Sportbird would have been a Mod Bod decal option. However since these were dealer-install they would not be on the option list. That truck would be perfect to put the decals back on, however that's a tall asking price!

Came across this listing for a 1972 K5 Blazer 4x4 with original motor and equipped with Cheyenne equipment, tilt wheel, A/C, the Highlander package, original Feathers Edition with very little rust and unrestored condition.... I was a dollar short and a day late! It sold in the high thirties. Considering today’s strong market for K5’s and the uniqueness of this rig, I think that it was a good buy.

Wow, over my “budget” but had my name all over it!

That's a great Blazer! Love the survivor status.

Here's a few more pictures of other color Blazer "Feathers" Mod Bods I've gathered.

Also the only other Blazer Mod Bod I've found actual pictures of is the Eagle variant in yellow/gold.

Post up any other Blazer pictures you have! I'll be posting up all the C10 pictures I have soon.

Here's all the pictures of different colored Mod Bod Eagle C-10 trucks I have.

Note: While it was an option I have yet to see a single short-bed truck with the Mod Bod decals!

Wonder how they’d look on my Blazer... hmm

They mention that custom colors are available...
Maybe experiment with some different colors?

Here's a picture of the only '72 Mod Bod "Hawk" C10 I've found (other than the 1972 auto show picture). However I've seen a few sets of NOS decals come up for sale.

This variant seems to be much less popular than the Eagle and Feathers.

The 67 GTO is stealing that picture.
If it isn't too much trouble, can you post a full picture of it ?
Color combo looks to be real striking.

Sorry to interupt.
TIA

Thanks man. Great looking GTO with the Blue Top combo.
Really caught my eye.
Factory applied original paint too - WoW
Is there a thread anywhere with features about the car ?

Sorry for the sidetrack here.

Baron Von Zeppelin 03-24-2020 11:58 PM

Major Nelson on I Dream of Jeanie drove a 67 GTO Vert same color as yours for a while on the show.
Numerous Poncho's used on that show as well.

Looks like the company that recreates the Feathers decals has made a retro set using grey colors. Pretty neat Blazer!
I'm glad they stayed true and put the decals on a '72 model.

"Restore a Muscle Car" out of Nebraska has done yet another Feathers Blazer clone, this time with an original color scheme! I'll give them credit, they look to do great work on the decals and they look very true to the originals.

This one is currently for sale on their website with an asking price of $70k.
