Ford Vs. Ferrari

Anyone see it yet?

Went and saw this last weekend. Really enjoyed it and learned some new things (though in usual hollywood fashion I am sure some were embellished).

To me it was a good story of a bygone era.

My favorite quote - "that's why your Henry Ford the second" :)

Of course, the pundits are blasting the movie as too white, too male and too straight.

But what I saw is a devastating picture of the lack of diversity that permeated the industry in the 1960s.
Quote:

During all 152 minutes of the film, men dominate the screen for 98% of the time. And when I say men, I mean white and straight
from there the review degrades into how horrible of a man Shelby was and now how many "inclusive" automotive manufacturers are etc.

For me, yea, I enjoyed the movie and could care less that some snowflake was triggered by it.

Hasn’t come out on DVD yet lol

Saw it last week with the wife. We both loved it. Yes, some little nit-picks are in there but they were easy to overlook and enjoy the movie.

Really a great movie, the wife and I enjoyed it. We were ready to walk back in and see it again!
The best!!!!

Cool, sounds like a movie for me! Thanks for this review! I have to support that! I order the popcorn....

Last time I was at the movies, was Nikki Lauda's "Rush" Formula 1 film.

As the National Post is a newspaper from my homeland, I was appalled and ashamed of that review...sorry I couldn't help myself in adding my 2 cents in the comment section underneath it. Other people took the reviewer to task over his narrow take on the film. Just dumb.

Most of the movies today attempt to add a social justice twist, or rampant virtue signalling as part of the plot.

F vs F does neither and it is an unexpected #1 at the Box office.

For the vast majority of movies that want to be politically correct its "get woke - go broke".

mockingbird812 11-22-2019 12:40 PM

Well put Des! Some folks just don’t get it!! :3gears:

69LM1 11-22-2019 01:15 PM

I dont know about you guys, but back in the 70's drag racing was one of the most inclusive sports here in south Louisiana. Not many females but plenty of blacks. Other than the odd chest puffing on either side, it was one of the few times i remember no social restraint in mixing. Everyone just loved going fast.

Same here in Detroit.

And - that is still the case.

(Except now we have plenty of females, too).

Wow, that was a fantastic article. Sounds like an amazing individual, bordering on (if not completely) being a genius.

Carroll Shelby was an excellent student of the most basic of good management rules: 'surround yourself with people who are as good or better than you are'.

JRSully 11-25-2019 10:50 AM

Went and saw the movie last night. While the subject matter is something most of us old motorheads know and love, I thought the acting was excellent. My 13 year old rolled over and told me he had "chills" during some of the scenes. The movie had me start to finish, and not just because it was a "car" flick

Dave Rifkin 11-25-2019 06:22 PM

I went to see it yesterday with my wife. While she has become somewhat of a car chick, thanks to me, she didn't know much about the story. She loved the movie and even found herself getting choked up a few times.

I had no idea that Ken Miles was robbed of the win; what a shame. That guy from Ford was a total a-hole (if he truly was portrayed accurately).

I think Matt Damon and Christian Bale did an excellent job; I really enjoyed the movie.

Crush 11-25-2019 07:00 PM

I loved it when Carroll Shelby took Henry Ford II for a ride in was his $9 million investment .....I won’t say anymore don’t wanna spoil it for those that haven’t seen it!
Great storyline and movie!!

MYSTERYCHEVELLE 11-25-2019 10:21 PM

Saw it this afternoon with Gal. She too had no knowledge of the Shelby guy or even who Lee I was etc etc. But as any good story should do, it sucked her in from start to finish. I too enjoyed it! Great Actors and well told story. So for you guys who want to bring your ladies, don't let them get hung up on the Oh it's a car movie!! It's great STORY. Most anyone will appreciate that

My wife and I both loved it. Go see it and enjoy what happened back in the day.

Charley Lillard 11-29-2019 05:09 PM

Seeing it today.

Really enjoyed it. As I watched the action at Le Mans, I got to thinking about Ed Lowther's speech at SCR1, about racing there. He mentioned how the big block Corvettes experienced brake fade, how at night it was harder to locate entry/braking points and mechanical issues that seemed to always pop up. I would love to have a copy of his speech, as is was one of the coolest, funniest I have ever heard.

To bad Duntov's experimental Chevy BB engines never we approved by the top brass at GM. If so this would of never happened.

427TJ 11-29-2019 06:49 PM

Saw it again with my son. Briefed him up on the backstory: Shelby, Ken Miles, Shelby-American, Ford, Ferrari, Gianni Agnelli/Fiat, etc. He loved it.

Kim_Howie 11-29-2019 07:06 PM

I loved the movie! I have one question. The idiot ford ex that thought Miles wasn't a PLAYER . The man gave his life as a player. I would say he was the BEST player on the team. SCREWED out of the win. WTH

A MKIV GT40 experimental class purpose-built racecar would have run away from any L88
67 Corvette in GT class. Two different worlds.

copo69 11-29-2019 11:01 PM

My wife and I saw it Wednesday evening. She knew nothing about the cars, stories , characters, etc. but she loved it. I really enjoyed it and may have to go again. Very high quality well acted film the whole family could enjoy, something rather rare in this day and time.

SuperNovaSS 11-29-2019 11:03 PM

Just saw it. Great movie.

We just got back from seeing it. Great movie that any car guy would love.
Howie. In real life the Ford guy was a good guy but someone had to be the bad guy in the movie.

Tenney 11-30-2019 03:03 PM

Figure the movie Ford guy was loyal to his boss and company, so not ill-intended.

Wikipedia only lists the other two GT40 drivers and doesn’t even include Ken Miles in the top three results... really?

cheveslakr 11-30-2019 06:27 PM

McLaren and Amon were the winning "team", 2 drivers per car. Miles was second.
This movie has one huge impact on some of us old timers. I can't remember the last time I went to the theatre?? Just called my buddy, he just sat down for the movie, couldn't talk. That guy has NEVER been to a theatre....or at least since the '80s.

Late BrakeU2 12-02-2019 02:40 PM

Two drivers, no radio's, cool suits, team dieticians or massage therapists, driving beastly handling cars with limited brakes relative to speed.. real drivers.
