'69 #s RS/Z, Docs, Nice
Sharp car with what appears to be the original dealer invoice, but the quality of the pics is garbage. Anyone familiar with this car? Asking price $85k.

Those exhaust manifolds.. :ooo:

The front headlight doors and grill fitment are awful. Probably a cobbled together car.

I believe I looked at this car several years ago in Minnesota. the owner had died and if you were interested in the car you had to write down what you were willing to pay for it and hand it to the wife. it needed a full restoration. I don't remember it having the original motor.

This one has been sold and is being flipped, err sold, by a dealer.

There is good reason to believe the 'dealer invoice' is fake. N555559 was final-assembled on or about December 5, 1968. That's a little over a week after dealers were notified of the availability of ZL2. The two earliest known documented ZL2 builds are Dec 27 @ Van Nuys and Dec 30 @ Norwood. No radio noted on the invoice.
A few other areas of concern. Trans date of P8P11 [Sept 8, 1968] is way off the norm for the VIN. Way too early for 8000 rpm tach and 2nd design rear spoiler. For some reason, they filled the rear body panel/quarter panel seams. Many other resto blunders. |

Actually, that trans is dated 68 model year, so it's a year too early. :)

Good catch Kurt.

Relisted in the link below, as a #s matching car.

It is indeed a "VIN # matching engine", in that those numbers re-stamped there on the pad do match the car's VIN. It's a slippery set of words. 'Born with' and "the car's original engine it left the factory with" are not used here for obvious reasons.
Also "The original trim tag also denotes the car to be a factory RS/Z28". I know of no method of verifying an RS-optioned Z from a trim tag. If there is, I'd really like to know it so PM me if you do. :) |
ZL2 hood on a 12A built Z Z28. sold/Invoiced 5 months later notes ZL2 hood, but omits deluxe interior OOPS!. I'm curious how this car morphed into what it has supposedly become.

Would like to see Jerry's full report.
|
It's amazing that a car without original drivetrain (in fact restamped engine & wrong year trans), obviously documents that are not original, and claim it as a RS/Z28! I certainly would not put my name on any car certification with these issues.

What's this thing in the trunk?
Attachment 200130 JM apparently certified this one as an RS Z/28 Attachment 200131 :dunno: |
Jerry knows his stuff.

This car was at the same Jerry cert party I was at earlier this year in San Rafael, CA. The gold car has a great owner, super nice guy. The car has replacement frame and MANY other issues. It's a whole new car underneath. They didn't even weld on the rear exhaust mount on the left outside frame for exhaust. I was 2 feet away when Jerry walked under it and was calling out alot of things. I heard him say it has a '68 dated trans. I saw the rear seems all welded up. Jerry said it is in fact a Z/28. This shop is where the red wrecked Z/28 is being rebuilt/repaired. The one that was HAMMERED!! ... Danny

Summary:
Note they don't show JM's data sheets. The car is a mess. Restamped block, 68 transmission, the rear frame rails weren't installed properly. Body panels and glass didn't line up, the car leaned a full 2" on the drivers side. Fake docs. Dealer took the car back. It then was in the Mecum auction in Oct. 2021 at the Chattanooga, TN. auction and sold for $120K. Just spreading the disappointment around. :( |
