any one know of a good way to get spray paint off a plastic fan shroud with out hurting the plastic

A white scotchbrite pad,dipped lightly in paint thinner.If not work,go to the more abrasive green pad..if not work,go to even more abrasive black pad.
If not work,go back to the white pad & dip in the ever powerful Goof Off,then work up to more abrasive pads again.
Wear gloves as Goof Off will melt the scotchbrite pad & shroud if left on long enough.

Lacquer thinner will damage a lot of different types of plastic. I've used non-acetone nail polisher remover several times to take off rattle can spray paint on plastic items. It takes a lot more work to get it off but its never damaged any plastic I've used it on so far.

Use Super Clean. The purple gallon container. Submerge the part for best results. Plastic model builder hobbyist use it. Check out YouTube videos. Won't hurt plastic. Don't get it on your skin. Great for stripping vacumn plating (chrome) on arm rest bases, AC balls etc. Read the directions on what not to use it on.

Try a small spot using DOT-3 brake fluid and see how the results are.
I used this method to remove factory paint from Athearn Model Railroad painted locomotives during a livery change.

I powerwashed mine off. Looked like new after.

By the way, a propane torch with a wide fan type flame spreader can be used (with care) to remove light scratches on the shrouds. Practice on the inside of the shroud.

Find another, sell It at the swap. Lol
I believe it was xylol the sign shop used where I used to work.

I second this. I have used it for years on various plastics, including tail light lenses with no effect on the plastic surface.

Citrus Strip is safe on most plastics.

I soaked a lot of parts in evaporust. It has always soften up the paint or removed it. Never tried it on a fan shroud. But I bet it would work. Even if it softens it and then used a high pressure air blow gun to remove what's left.

This is the best and safest. Castrol Super Clean.

I did mine and it came out perfect.
ZIP STRIP........It lifts paint right off and 0000 fine steel wool. Wash it good. DONE.
Of course, don’t try it while it’s attached. 😎

I tried paint stripper, which turned out just fine. Used a rag and plastic scraper then washed off with soap an water. Didn't harm the plastic at all...

You may want to try regular lighter fluid. Do not leave on for extended period of time, just wipe on & wipe off. Use plastic cleaner soap like Super Clean or Simple Green diluted afterward for cleanup. Don.
