Racing insurance
 

I remember reading about this on here somewhere, but I can't remember where. My Camaro insurance is being canceled and I have to find another company. I asked MK insurance if I would be covered under their policy if I was racing just for fun and they said no. Does any collector car insurance cover you when you are drag racing? All of you who have the high dollar COPO and other super cars who are racing at SCR, are you running with no coverage?

I've used Hagerty for driving of road courses. They are partnered with another company to provide track insurance.

I've been recommended all three for HPDE insurance. Not sure if they cover drag racing.

Bill is good with this from what I've heard, and a big racer as well. If they can't do it AND IT CAN BE DONE, he will let you know who can and how to do it.

$1500 a year, to go to one race. :eek2: :shocked: And that doesn't cover any street driving.

I have my chevelle insured through Don Kennedy in Portland Tn. , he is a racer himself . I have coverage all the time except from burn box to turn off and also tool coverage , I have $50000 value for right at $500 a year

So that's NOT ON-TRACK face car insurance? We need insurance BETWEEN the burn-out box and the return road.

No coverage between burn box and turn off , all other times yes if throttle sticks and you hit a pole in the lanes it's covered if you hit the wall on the track it's not, on track coverage is offered but was crazy expensive for a $50000 value , in my situation the on track is not viable I race from Bradenton fl. To Norwalk oh so I'm on the road a lot of miles each year so it's nice knowing I have some coverage on the car. State Farm cancelled my coverage years ago because I race the car so I feel this is a great plan for me

Finding insurance between the burn-out box and the return road is going to be a challenge.
I use McFarland Rowlands for my Stock Eliminator.
They cover my car everywhere except when I am making a pass.
That was all that I could find in Ontario.

Available - Probably yes. Affordable - That's a relative thing.

I'd expect the minimum premium to be thousands of dollars. There's just too much that can go wrong in a competitive situation.

Interesting conversation! It would seem drag racing is a bit behind other on-track motorsports in this regard.

For "High Performance Driver's Education" events and time trials, the companies I linked above will happily ensure your vehicle at an agreed and guaranteed value. Most offer either 10% or 15% deductible plans and you can purchase per day, weekend, or season.

For some quick math, a $45,000 guaranteed value for two days of HPDE cost ~$300. If you aren't familiar with HPDE, think road course driving where you are only limited by your skills. You're on track with other cars, but are not racing. Any passing is coordinated.

I would expect a day of drag racing to be less, but that's based on it being less seat time, less variables, etc. I don't know if an insurance company would evaluate it that way.

I know Bills coverage wass good. His rough guess on rates used to be about 5% of AGREED value. I know probably 8-10 guys that used it, not have it. Last I heard Bill was running 3 cars, PM Outlaw 10.5 and no-prep. So show him pictures and agree on the value. FULL COVERAGE EVERYWHERE. Detroit guy's O10.5 burned is the shop, claim was started BEFORE fire department left the building. Was watching a live feed on a race, cars crossed the centerline and hit the wall. Bill was watching and posted it's FULLY covered. Heard they had a cheque to him within 10 days. AND used to be that they covered the other car too if you caused them to crash. So lets say 5000/yr for a PM?? And you take out the other car, they BOTH get paid.

YES it's pricey but so are these cars today.

Think about what they are insuring... the problem is not just that it is racing, it is that it is NOT PROFESSIONAL RACING. Am racing is where the likelyhood of something going WRONG is MORE LIKELY, because when you are not in the practice of constant preparation and honing skills something will happen and if something goes wrong it is more likely to skew to the BAD SIDE.
