Replacing the water pump on my wifes 70Z. I want to try and match the color of the engine as close as I can. Paint guys what brand do you recommend in the can? I know it will need some finessing after being painted. Thanks for your help syc.

If you don't mind waiting for it to ship Bill Hirsch makes a really good chevy orange engine paint (or at least they did 20 years ago).

Here's a factory painted engine. This factory worker might've been a little lazy this day...Joe

Thank you everyone for your help. Must have been a Monday or Friday when they painted that engine. Lol

----Bugsy, It's really not all that uncommon for there to be no paint in a lot of areas of the engine. Ask anyone with a true original.....Bill S

I linked to a factory video of the engines being painted - a few seconds per engine. Can't find that link right now....

Another factory painted engine, removed from a Yenko Deuce shortly after purchase.
If a resto shop did this, you would be pissed. |
Found it. But the video is now gone!
As are some other videos that I linked to. That's too bad. I'm going to start listing the titles from now on so we can find them if someone else later posts them. Original post: Here is(was) actual video of the engines being painted in the factory. Notice the water curtain for the overspray. And notice the third guy painting the one engine blue (or black) and the next one yellow. At 12:53 in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yotAogMph68 (now 404) |
