1970 Chevelle SS454 Cranberry Red or Shadow Gray LS5/M22
Looking for a nice, documented, original or restored Cranberry Red or Shadow Gray 1970 Chevelle SS 454/M22 car with born with drive train and a known history. My perfect car would have black stripes and interior with a cowl hood, gauges, power steering and no AC, no preference on the seats or console, either would be fine. Thanks, Chad

I saw this car on Hemming's website a few weeks ago and was interested until they posted pictures today. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's a terrible re-stamp of the suffix and vin for a KC car? Still looking...

You're correct, the engine pad is a complete re-stamp in every aspect possible, including the Broach marks.
Also sits too high in back, big ass Autozone lug nuts, blue GM label inside Passenger door is wrong as are numerous engine components.Spare tire is upside down, rear speakers are after mkt. and missing enclosures, and the black shift knob in incorrect. Pass door mirror is a later add on and it's missing it's early under headlight mouldings. |
Yikes, $56,500 for a re-stamped driver with no docs makes me think I might not be able to afford the car I'm looking for if I ever find it. Still looking...

Still looking for a nice Cranberry Red 1970 Chevelle SS 454/M22 car with born with drive train and a known history. This car will bring me full circle since my first car in was a red 70 SS back in 1987. Hard to believe that was 34 years ago.

Looked at a decent Shadow Gray LS5/M22 Chevelle last night with the nice build sheet and window sticker that was very tempting but it had some floor and trunk issues I didn't want to deal with plus it originally had a green bench seat interior. I've always liked the gray ones too but figured it would be easier to find a red one, go figure.

Chevelle
Got access to another Red LS6 Chevelle 4 speed car!
Pm at 9548996325 Also have a Daytona Yellow LS6 Chevelle too!! |
Thanks Rich but until the kids are out of college an LS6 is out of the question for me price wise.
|
Still looking, this has been a lot harder than I thought it would be. Anyone got any good ideas where to look beside eBay, Craigslist and Facebook?
|
I will keep an eye out for you up here Chad.

Anyone know anything about this Flint built LS5 Chevelle? Flint cars didn't have build sheets if I remember correctly but it's supposed to have a POP but I have no idea how to tell if they're real and there's no picture of it anyway. Wish it had a picture of the engine suffix too since the VIN is down by the oil filter. I'm still learning so any opinions would be great to see if any of my thoughts are correct.
https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...-LS5-SS-247719 VIN is 13637F163560 and it looks like it sold at Smokey Mountain Traders back in 2018 but they didn't restore it since another dealer in OH had it for sale first. If you look up the VIN on Google there is a post on Chevlles.com where they mention the rear stripes being way too wide, the trans and VIN stamps and of course the beautiful, must have caution fan sticker. The link for the smokey mountain add that shows the stamps and trim tag is below. https://www.smokymountaintraders.com...hevelle-ss-454 |
Still looking for a red or gray LS5/M22 Chevelle... I've had a dozen old cars since 1996 and 10 of the 12 have been rarer than an LS5 Chevelle and all of them had the original engine and transmission except my 71 Monte SS and the COPO Camaro Kandy and I took to MCACN in 2015. This has been hands down the toughest car for me to find with the original engine and documentation which blows my mind since they all had hydraulic cams and 3.31 gears.

theres a good looking shadow gray ls5 in oregon on craiglist but its not a numbers car the guy is a little out of reach on his price as well
|
A friend told me about that one Rich and I was drooling over the ad since it was optioned exactly how I would have ordered one back in the day. Until I got to the last sentence with the non-matching engine part. Neat car though.

Shadow gray with ivory interior would be a stunning combination Rich, especially without AC. In a couple weeks or a month he might reconsider if he doesn't get any better offers?
That car is very close to the one I looked at in Minneapolis back in February for 50k that had the original engine, a warranty replacement M22 and the nicest build sheet and window sticker I've seen. But, it originally had a green bench seat interior that had been quickly dyed black and some quarter, trunk and floor work I didn't want to deal with down the road. If I knew then what I know now I probably would have bought it though. |

Yeah, I couldn't have lived with the green interior. Hard to believe they actually paid extra to get it! Here's a link to the car when it was for sale before it was painted and the interior was dyed for the guy who ended up buying it in 2018. The build sheet and window sticker still haunt me, the original owner folded them up together on day one and they've been in the glove box every since.

That’s really strange! Also I thought that site was one of those scam ones. Had no idea it was legit
|
That's a really neat car. I wouldn't have believed anyone would order that green interior with Shadow Gray....
|
That's the way my LS5 M40 shadow grey car is , ivory interior with black top though . My 396 , 4 speed is shadow grey with saddle , little better color combo than the green ! Is there a link to the one in Oregon , can't seem to find it ?

Nice looking car but good thing it has that build sheet because with all the stuff wrong /not original , i would have said it was a clone.
|
Sheet is fake IMO... I'm speaking of the gray car on Seattle Craigslist.
|
I thought it looked a little off too but I’m no expert so I didn’t say either way to the guy.
|
And there you have it !!
|
I'd be interested in a red L78 4 speed too but I figured an LS5 would be much easier to find.
|
After two years of looking I finally bought one of the nicest LS5 Chevelle's in the country from one of the nicest, upfront sellers I've ever met. First time in my life I bought a car sight unseen and had it delivered and I'm happy to say it's just as nice as the owner described, probably too nice for me which is a pleasant surprise. Once I get car sorted out and cleaned up I'll post pictures. Almost forgot, it's a red, bench seat 4 speed, cowl hood, tach and gauges car with no AC and one of the nicest Atlanta build sheets you'll ever see.
|
very nice! glad you were patient!
|
Thanks Rich. I'm glad I held out too, it's a really nice car and will be perfect for me and the boy. He's in love with the M22 already and we only drove it around the block once. Repro Goodyear tires are on backorder through October and I want to get personalized plates for it before the tires get here. Once that's done I'll be posting away.

Here's a pic of the car the day it arrived from Oregon. The rest of the story and few more pics will be posted in the Members Rides section shortly from an old post by the previous owner back in 2005.

Wow, this LS5 with a bad re-stamp and no docs that brought $56,500 in 2020 just sold at Kissimmee today for $110,000, unbelievable! https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0122-48...-chevelle-ls5/ |
i couldn't believe that either it will be at a dealer for 150K next week or its going over seas
|
Don’t worry. This bubble will pop, sooner or later.
