63 Fuelie Corvette numbers
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
How's this stamp look? I'm going to be buying a 63 Vette, Silver blue, that's a Fuelie car. Inner fender holes are there, intake port on rad support, big tach and oil pressure gauge, and date stamp of motor along with VIN match up. Like most, no fuelie parts remain. Does that pad look ok? Seems ok to me and proper RF stamp too. Thoughts? Cheers Dave |

Dave
Hope you don't mind. Adjusted your pigture. |
Yes! A Dave thread on a '63 Vette! I was suffering from a little Crusty Cuda withdrawal.
|
Hahaha! Yes! Looks like this one is coming to TX. Verified a fuelie by the owner, last owner, and the telltale signs.
Of course the whole Rochester contraption is missing.... But this looks like a job for MCACN 2021!!!:eek2: More to come... Cheers SuperDave |
I'd like to see a better pic. But, judging by what I can see. The dates line up for later June car (last VIN produced in June is 18524). It looks like the type of characters that are typical. The closest original motored car I have pics of is a LATE 62 340hp.
Coupe or roadster? |

It's a silver blue roadster, but had a repaint in what I think may be a 67 color. Here's a pic. More info to follow...
Also the engine date stamp. Cheers Dave |
Dave,
She’s a Beauty! Great color combo :) Very classy Vette. I hope you get her. Dan |
----Good going, Dave! Color looks close to 65 Nassau Blue, but that is also similar to 67 Marina Blue. Car looks nice, but we all know we will see a lot more pics (can't wait). Tell me about the KOs. It would be such a cool thing if they were real even though they weren't available on 63s. They really make the car even if they are repops. Nice top which are pretty costly and a bitch to get looking wrinkle free. Numbers look OK, but it appears as though someone got just a bit aggressive cleaning up the pad. Congrats!!!.....Bill S

So, it looks like car #17835 with engine cast E 13 3 (May 13,'63) and assembly stamped by Flint 06 06 (June 6). Characters look OK to me, but the pad surface isn't a gimme with obvious broach marks. Agree with Bill that something has worked the pad surface a bit much.
Per Noland Adams database published in his "Complete Corvette Restoration and Technical Guide Vol. 2", cars produced just prior in this timeframe include : #17304 with a stamp F0605RE / casting date E 27 3 #17511 with a stamp F0422RF / casting date D 15 3 #17652 with a stamp F0610RE / casting date E 23 3 #17691 with a stamp F0606RF / casting date E 17 3 |

Whoops. Here’s that stamp and owner confirms that E133 stamp.
So what’s that mean, Tom? Are those cars known Fuelies? And more importantly, does anyone have any fuelie parts for a 63 they don't need?:hmmm: Cheers:beers: Dave |
I personally like the dates on that block Dave-the other 0606 assembled block is cast within 4 days, so it all seems very plausible for shipments of engines heading from Flint to St. Louis in and assigned to cars when they arrive. The one car with the month earlier cast and assembled engine looks like an outlier. I like using Adams' database because I think he collected info before the information stream got too polluted with restamps. I wish I had access to pictures of the stamps to help verify my confidence in them. If you look at things like the pictures in the C2 Registry, its very helpful, but you have to look at the pics themselves and decide if you're buying them as real.
|
Thanks, Tom. And the caveat here is I'm buying the car as a fun driver since I really miss my 64. I'm not too worried about the stamping, but if everything checks out and it's the real deal, then bonus! Although the repaint is eye catching, It was a treat when he told me the original color was silver blue. Only thing that could have made me happier was Daytona Blue!
Personally, I'm pretty confident that the car is a fuelie, but whether that's the original engine or not, who knows? I'll post clear pics when I get it here. Looking forward to more help! :headbang: Cheers:beers: Dave |
Nothing is nicer than a well set up fuel injection unit. They can be temperamental and they need to be driven regularly to keep them happy. The fuel unit is driven off of a drive cable from the distributor, a fuel unit and distributor can get pricey. The air cleaner unit is reproduced, but pricey. A fuel unit and distributor can run about $10,000.

My Buddie has a 63 FI car that I have not seen in Years, He keeps the FI Unit Behind Seat or on the footwell & a spare cable in the Glove Box. He claims they were Cheap in the 70's80's

Dave,
FWIW, I have been using Jerry Bramlett for my injection work. The unit I sent to him some time ago is dead reliable! He is fair in his charges, and road tests each unit. I'm sure he can help you with sourcing a unit or at a minimum, steer you in the right direction. https://jerrybramlett.net/ Not much sounds like a fuelie at full song! Tim |
Thanks, Tim. I sent him a message to see availability of the needed parts.
His website is a little funny, but I guess he’s tired of dealing with the same questions all the time!:hmmm: Cheers Dave |
I have a 63 FI unit if you are going to need one.
|
Hi Dave, I agree with what was said. Be aware of pad surface. It seems some machine marks are not factory typical here. I should have a fuelie distributor at a very decent value if you end up being in need.
Good luck with the purchase. Have you checked the trim and vin tags? Thanks, Dan |
Hi Dan,
Yes, the trim and VIN tag all look good for a 63. Nothing funky about them. I first thought something was wrong since there was no “DD” stamped but after some research figured out while the welding of the tag was the same, the tag was different with no “DD” (Delivery Date” raised letters or stamp (or lack of). But yes, the look OK. I sent the engine pic to a few others and they think it looks OK, but I”m not convinced on anything until I get it here to get sone clearer pictures. Remember, I bought it as a fun driver and for my price point, I’m extremely happy. And Bonus again is that he found the Hardtop he had for it and sold to a local guy who wants to sell it. So I’ll have the original hardtop with it too!!! I’m planning on returning it to a factory injected car, and have an email into Jerry who has an entire correct set up for me, but he may already have a deposit on it. So I may be interested in that distributor, and travlnz28, sending you a PM. Cheers Dave |
The LT-1 cam in a fuelie pulls like a freight train!!!!!!
|
----And there's nothing like a well set up Fuelie with 4:11s and off road under the car exhaust (which is reproduced) at 4000-to-6500!!! ......Bill S

Dave, the engine pad looks good to me. Congrats and welcome to the 1963 Corvette Fuelie club. My car is a factory no radio thus no ignition shielding. Glad to be able to recognize a new member. Enjoy your new car.
Mike |
Thanks guys!
Mike, beautiful car and thanks for the welcome! I found a few more correct clues and that’s the larger 6qt oil system pan, Finned Harmonic damper, and correct exhaust manifolds with the no mounting bosses on the left side along with the choke stove pipe hole, and no choke stove pipe on the passenger side! More clues! Once it gets here I’ll check out the rear axle for the gear ratio. :3gears: I’m starting to work on finding the correct fuel injection parts. I also plan on finding a good set of steel wheels and some nice original wheel covers fir it too. I like the knock-offs, but they are the bolt on style. Good for safety, but I like the caps better! Fun stuff!!! Cheers:beers: Dave |

...and with that, I just sealed a deal on a 100% complete FI unit off a running car that was removed a few months ago. This had been restored by Jerry Bramlett and still runs flawlessly. It’s complete with everything!
Additionally, I found a set of five correct steel wheels along with fully restored (polished) later style hub caps. The last thing I know I need is the correct master cylinder and I found that too. I also have the potential to buy the original hardtop to the car and will know later today if the gentleman wants to sell it. WOOHOO!!! Now I just need the correct Silver Blue paint!:cool2: New thread....comin’ in HOT!!!!!:hmmm: Cheers:beers: Dave |
That's beautiful.
|
Wow Dave! This is awesome. I can’t wait to watch the progress!
Jason |
you're on a roll!
|
Way to go Dave!
How does the fuel injection unit compare to a tunnel ram? |
I can't wait to see this one!!! Such a cool car and silver blue is awesome.
|
Congrats on everything coming together! This is gonna be nice. Man, I don't know how you do it. Ya just finished your part on the crusty 'Cuda, building a BMW 507 from scratch and now you've got this 'Vette! :eek2: I'm sure you have some other irons in the fire on non car related things. I guess that where the "Super" comes from!
|
Dave,
Was that the fyoolee unit in NJ you wanted me to pick up or a different one? I am still available if you need it procured. |
Congrats Dave. Looks like another WINNER!!! Looking forward to following along. Let ‘er RIIIIIIIIIIIP!!! :3gears::3gears::3gears:
|
Thanks, guys! I know, a Mark. It’s non-stop here! This one sort of fell into my lap though. Found another cool thing. The alternator appears to be original with a date of 3E22, so May 22nd, 1963 which falls in line with everything else.
The last couple things I’ll check is the frame stamp above the driver’s side Rear suspension bumper on top of the frame, rear axle code, and transmission info. Flying up Tuesday to get it back here!:headbang: Also found a complete restored set of late 63 caps. Woohoo! Steve, no, this is a different setup so no help needed, but thanks! Cheers:beers: Dave |
What are you going to name it Dave?
|
Name it?? I hadn’t thought about that.:dunno:
Maybe “Injection-Vettion”. Oooo! I know! How about the “Fooly-Fuelie”.:eek2::eek2::eek2: Hmmmmmmm...... Cheers:beers: Dave |
|
Bingo, Lee!!!
The “Foolie-Fuelie“ thread comin’ in HOT!!! Cheers:beers: Dave |
Well, since you said you'd never do another restoration project...how about:
