Does anyone know where this 1969 Nova is currently at? The VIN is 114279W425077.

I recently purchased the original Muncie M21 main case that belongs to this Nova. The guy was from Rockford IL. He said he purchased it at an auction in Wisconsin and was going to make a lamp out of it, but never got around to it.....lol

Good luck finding that Nova, but I have to say that I really like the way they write up the auction results and vehicle condition on that website.

Mecum results:

Somebody lost some $$$ on that! Says sold for $73,440 in January of 2015, yet at Indy it sold for $60,000 with buyers premium???

I updated this with pictures and sent an email Mecum inquiring about the whereabouts of the Nova.

I bought that car about 10 years ago it had its original motor but the original trans was missing. The original engine ended up in his buddys Camaro but got reunited with the car, I cant forget the Bud Wieser docs were still in the glove compartment. I sold it to the guy who auctioned it off at Mecum,
It was a very clean car but I could not fiqure out why it had a 1970 interior in it

Still looking for any information on the Nova to try and get this main case to the current owner.

Thanks, Kurt

Did you try contacting Mecum? Don't ask for the buyers name. Just explain the situation and give them your phone number so they can contact the buyer and if interested, he will call you.

I sent them an email last week but haven’t heard anything. I plan on trying again.

On a side note, a friend stopped over yesterday. He looked at the case and it needs to be repaired or used as a conversation piece as the front of the trans, where the input shaft bearing sits, is damaged. It appears it spun inside the trans and now it’s enlarged. Probably why it was replaced. I still would like to see it go to the car.....if the current owner wants it.

The right person could probably weld and re-machine or cnc the needed opening.

I've welded several of those Muncie cases and it's a real pain. It's pretty trashy aluminum.

I’m still looking for the current owner of this Nova.......I contacted Mecum a few months ago but they haven’t gotten back to me with any information.

Thanks, Kurt

Send him contact info for Crash. I'm pretty sure he has cases refurbished and might have a lead on someone to repair it for him.

yes, repairing an enlarged shaft opening is not difficult. The proper way to do it is to drill the hole out to a larger size and press fit in an insert that is then machined to the correct id for the shaft. A competent rebuilder will be familiar with this repair.

It's the input shaft bearing that spun, not the small counter gear shaft hole enlarged. It may still be a sleeve candidate, but the hole will need to be machined accurately for the sleeve as well, or welded and re-machined.

The new owner of the main case has a friend who works on transmissions. He’s going to have him try to repair it and get it back in the Nova.

Many people try to weld the broken ear back on the case. This usually doesn't work out very well. I've found that the best way to repair the case is just to build up weld and make a new ear. The case above was repaired without using the broken ear.
