Scammers to want ads

Beware of scammers even to this web site. I posted a want ad and had a call from a man closing out his deceased father in laws property and he had the part I needed. He was knowledgable of the parts and very convincing. So I sent the money and now the number is disconnected. I am sure the name will change with the next person but the names I was given was Shean Harris and Alicia Harris in New Mexico but they were supposedly closing out the father in laws property in California. I knew it was a risk but he answered all the right questions. He was good and I have been screwed by one of the best phone scammers I have had the misfortune to meet. BEWARE of persons that have your parts

That is a bummer. How long has it been since you paid?

I sent it western union today again because they were away from home and closing the inlaw"s house up before leaving for their home.

Never ever western union.

That was the first and last time.

Sorry to hear that Mick. Hopefully 'Karma' gets the jerk sooner or later.

Sorry to hear about this. Like what was said, never western union. Also never pay Pay Pal friends and family, unless you know the seller. If you use pay pal use the paying for an item option. I believe this will give you some protections. If the seller says he is stuck with paying fee's with this option, offer to pay the fee's or part of the fee's. This will weed out some of the thieves. Although pay pal is always changing rules etc. ROB

I responded to a wanted ad last week by a new member on here (MotorGuy50). Last Sunday he called me & asked if there were any scammers on the site, he was contacted by someone who tried to sell him all the parts he was looking for for $300.

Other car sites !

A very popular Pontiac site (PY - Performance Years) forums also has been battling these losers.

That site has found / banned several clowns this week.

Chris.

I must mention there are a ton of good people here on this site who I have bought parts from and are an integral part of the hobby. It is very upsetting to find others are using the forum to their advantage only.

I agree I have never had a problem with trust from anyone on the site before and this clown knew the parts so I admit I did think well I could consider a certain amount of trust for that reason. But expensive lesson learned and it will not be repeated. Unfortunately that is the world we live in and we have to be mistrusting in everyone when only a small percentage of people deserve the scrutiny.

Maybe they disconnected the phone because they moved out of the house? I hope it’s just a misunderstanding and has a happy ending. Do you have the address you sent the money order to or was it a money gram type of payment?

Sorry to hear about this Mick. Another tool to use is FaceTime or any of the video meeting apps that are everywhere now. If you can FaceTime them on your phone and see in real time that they have the part you need, it makes it a lot harder to pull a scam (especially one using other people’s pictures and the like). Hope it turns out for you.

He contacted me as well. His story stunk to me. He even tried to call me twice after we spoke. What a POS
