67 camaro brakes

My 19 year old son rescued his first project car last week a 67 camaro rs. Car has been sitting for at least 25yrs so of course all the brake fluid in the master is gone with that little bit of gook sitting on the bottom. Planning on changing master, wheel cylinders(2 are frozen) spring hardware and linings. Would you guys recommend changing the hoses(not cracked) and proportiong valve. Is the prop valve something you can take of and try to clean? Its a power 4 wheel drum car. Thanks, Mark

Yes! Change the hoses. Rebuild the prop valve, not too tough and the rebuild kit is cheap and available here: https://www.musclecarresearch.com/

Hoping you are referring to the rear flex hose too.

Agree. Just no reason NOT to as long as you are going to be into the hydraulics anyway.

Not exactly a gem yet, but heres a couple. 327 rs, Ermine white/red interior.

Looks like it might be the original engine, power brakes and steering and I don't see much for rust. Looks like a solid little car to bring back to life...

Not a common color combo either. Should be an interesting restoration.

Thanks. Can't find partial vin on engine or trans. The whole drivetrain does predate the build date by a few weeks. Quarters were done along time ago and floors are solid.

Too Many Projects 11-02-2020 11:44 AM

It wasn't common for the partial to be stamped on the base models. If the assembly date and application code on the front pad are in line with the build date on the trim tag, that's about as good as it gets.
The vin will indicate whether the car was a 6 or 8 cylinder but nothing else about drive train. Any trim codes on the tag for options ?

If you haven't already, go to http://camaros.org/ for the most complete and accurate 1st gen Camaro info around. The site can be a little difficult to work around in, but it will help you find and decode all the castings and dates on the car.

wannarun70 11-02-2020 11:53 AM

It has an124 vin so it is an 8cyl. Still has the original motor mount straps. Yeah, like that motor was going anywhere. I've been on that site like everyday since he got the car. Thanks. Mark

Too Many Projects 11-02-2020 09:12 PM

The straps weren't there for hp, they were to cover GM's butt from other vehicles having the throttle rod get stuck in wot from a broken motor mount and crash, resulting in lawsuits.

Both my '67 Camaro and '66 Chevelle have midnight series Lokar pedals with cables.

wannarun70 11-03-2020 01:55 AM

Probably cheaper than changing all those motor mounts.. thanks, Mark

In 67, they only put partial vins on hipo engines. Became standard in 68.
