Please pick apart my L78 Camaro

Just bought this '67 L78 Camaro. It is frame off restoration, but I would call it a "nice driver" quality restoration. I hope to actually enjoy it a bit more than some of my trailer queens, but I want to make it reasonably "more correct" than it is.
From what I can obviously see and what I am already addressing: (1) Has aftermarket aluminum radiator (will get a more correct appearing repop, unless anyone has a real dated/coded radiator) (2) Will change hose clamps to correct "tower" style clamps (3) Will get correct anodized master cylinder reservoir cover (4) Will install A-arm dust shields and staples Is there anything else obvious to the '67 L78 experts? Again, please pick it apart. Thank you, Paul |

I'm no expert but guessing that heater hose bracket on the front of the block isn't right. Assuming it should be on the inner fenderwell? |

Yes, non-power drum brake car.
I thought disc brakes would be standard on SS or mandatory on BB, but I see the L78 convertible in the Brothers Collection is the same as this and found a few others online with non-power drums. |
----I was just wondering as it would be sort of a drag race oriented thing with the drums which makes sense. I'm not sure exactly what a non power drum brake master looks like. Hope it's the right one......Bill S

I’m certainly not an expert but, the alternator fan should be black. I see the temp sending unit wire is in a clip on the valve cover. Need a different pic angle shot of the left valve cover spark plug loom holder position. Seeing the front clip makes me think yours is correct but Chevelle is similar. Left 67 big block Camaro cover is hard puppy to find.
The pump to carb line is repop but so is mine and most you see. Is the radiator fan shroud GM or repop? Hope it’s GM cause real ones are hard to find and very expensive. I like your car man, it’s five weeks younger than mine. Later |

Water pump pulley does not appear to be a deep groove pulley and has wrong style belt. Tonawanda sticker on wrong valve cover. Incorrect PCV hose. Not sure about '67 models, but shouldn't the vacuum advance line be steel/rubber with a clip on the intake? I would like to see more pictures of your Camaro.

Yes on the water pump pulley, yes on the Vac advance hose should be rubber to steel line setting in a clip back to rubber into distr..
Is the carb a List 3910? Is the distributor a 1170? |
The right side valve cover is not correct, it is correct for 1969.

The dipstick tube should be shorter and the dipstick will have a salmon color tip |

I have ordered the correct vacuum advance line hard tube and retainer and the correct PCV hose retainer, correct clamps for radiator and heater hoses, correct heater hose retainer and will be trying to address some of your other comments. Carb is correct, but not correct date. Valve covers will be hard to find correct. Will look at distributor number soon. Will check out fan clutch. Need to find deep groove fan pulley. Thanks and if you see more, please let me know. |
Nice looking car. Any idea what is going on with the plug on the front side of the passenger head. It should protrude out, not stick in.

Those exhaust manifolds don't look right for a '67 either. :no:

The PTB ink stamps are not visible on '67s and are hidden by the front fenders.

Learning new things about the 4K cars. When I had the fenders off my car for painting I noticed one orange P behind the fender on the right side. That area of the cowl is still original paint on my car. Good information Jon, thanks.

Considering what I know on later years I’d believe the Heater core assembly speed nuts and ex manifold bolts phosphate instead of clear zinc, appears alternator wire rubber boot is what comes with aftermarket wiring harnesses, zinc washer under one painted water pump bolt, and valve covers as mentioned are incorrect but also aftermarket reproduction. Overall nIce find and congratulations. Much of aforementioned in posts easy to change so have fun.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Considering I bought this car already "done" and it is a CE engine, I am not going to go all out on it. But, I did order new valve covers from Crane yesterday, and a ton of other things to make it correct as possible for a nice driver.
One thing, the trunk lid does not have the "Chevrolet" and "camaro" emblems. Does anyone have exact measurements on where to drill the holes to place these emblems? Thanks again, Paul |
