Chicago Area Peeps
Anyone recall or knew of a Cortez Silver black top 69 L78 Camaro that ran around street racing? Would have been eventually repainted orange. Non trim car, blk standard interior and typical add-ons - Cragars, traction bars etc. Might have had a fuel pressure gauge or other gauges on the cowl. Just trying to get an idea if anyone might remember or maybe has any photos of the car..

Darrell I remember a orange 69 that was up that way that had a black top , haven’t seen it since probably 84 or 85 , I think a guy named Scott Brown had it . I know it had a big block in it but have no idea if it was a factory big block car , seems like It had a lenco in it

69 camaro
I dont remember a car of that description. What years was it supposedly in the Chicago area? There were a few different street racing haunts.

Thanks for the replies..!!. So from what the current owner has told me info so far is back to 1975. Places include Wheeling, Waukegan, Wadsworth, Winthrop Harbor (twice, two different owners), Libertyville & Hoffman Estates. Car was registered as red in ‘76. Doors have yellow under the orange paint as well. This car had some type of inline shifter at some point.

Darrell,
PM me your cell number. I will have Scott Brown call you....if it was Scott`s car, he most likely did have a Lenco Trans. Dan |
I thought Scott's 69 Camaro was dressed up as a Z\28. Not sure it was a original Z car, but did have a big block in it.

I just talked to Scott he said the car you are talking about is probably Pete Gerlings old car. Petes car also had a Lenko, Any one notice how far Scotts motor is set back in the magazine picture
|
Would Pete Gerling be related to a Nadine Gerling?
|
Yes there is a connection. I just talked to Pete his car was highly modified. The rear end was tubbed and had a 9 inch the trans tunnel was reworked for the Lenko and had a full cage in it. The car would go mid 8s. Started life as a big block with A/C probably not the same car

Here is the car in the far lane at the grove

Petes race car is not the car in Question. Pete sold a rolling body that was a real L78 silver car. He had put yellow doors on it and painted it orange and sold it to Chuck Hansen. The car was a real L78 car it had the original blown up block when Pete bought it.
|
That’s the car! My friend bought the car from Chuck. It still has the yellow on the doors on it.

Thanks for posting that article. I remember that Car Craft.
Man, I miss the CC from the 70's and 80's. |
So next question. Does John Alder or a guy with a last name Strezo ring any bells.?.
