Mulsane blue 70 L78
|
I do not remember this Camaro being a Gibb L78, although I have heard of one similar.
|
Looks like Darren Costello's old car.
|
I didn’t know Darren’s 1970 L78 was an original Fred Gibb car!

The car was set up as a "Yenko Clone" if I remember correctly and for sale at Volo years ago. I believe it had a 454, headers, stripes and it looked very good. Same Daisy mags as the above picture.

Auction details note Darren as a past owner also Original Build Sheet. The L78 registry includes the Gibb detail too so probably not new info? Did Darren originally get this car from you Stefano or some connection?:hmmm: :beers: ~ Pete . |
Which L78 registry?

The most I have seen a restored 1970 L78 Camaro fetch at auction is about 65-70K. I hope their optimism in the pricing pays off - that would be a new high water mark for these cars.
They certainly deserve more recognition. |
Here is the member's ride feature when Darren owned it:

I really wanted to own it in the clone form when I saw it at Volo. It would have been hard to change it back. I can't remember if the the 396 block that came with it was original to the car.

First thought to be sold new from El Bauer Chevrolet in Decatur, then later thought to be from Miles (or Fahrenbach) Chevrolet in Decatur, now said to be sold new from Fred Gibb in LaHarpe? How did they confirm that?
Here is when it was for sale on here. https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1177559 |

Great info and Gibb provenance must be a more recent NCRS result. Original Build Sheet must not include dealer info also note L78 Registry listing updated 10/20. Funny how it's come full circle from LS6 Harrel clone to actually being a Gibb car. :beers: ~ Oete . |
Before being restored Mic Price owned that car in southern IL
|
You're right Pete.Even the Registry it's listed in,isn't lending much credence to the recent Fred Gibb claim.
10/28/2020....FRED GIBB CHEVROLET - LA HARPE, IL (See Note 1) (Note 1) Documentation supplied by current or former owner and may or may not be legitimate. (If there is a link here it will link to a page of the car's history/story.) |
I think I sent Darrin a orig. spare for that car. Non orig. engine. Nice car.

There is another L78 with the same color combination. Here is a trim tag to confirm it. It is a Norwood built car. The talked about here is a vanuys built car. I hope the Fred Gibb works out to be true for the car. If not I feel it will tarnish it forever.
|
Nancy Gibb confirmed it was in the dealer ledger.
|
Thanks to Mike Seitz for providing me with the VIN. Per the Fred Gibb dealer prep sheet we have, the car was delivered to Fred Gibb on 4/6/70 and sold to Raymond Anderson on 4/23/70. Looks like the techs name was Wayne Elston.
|
Thanks Rick!
|
Very Kool, that makes this Camaro extra special.

NCRS report was obtained in 2017 , and nobody prior to this knew it was a Fred Gibb car . I was surprised myself
|
$90,000...gotta be a world record price for one of these. The Fred Gibb provenance paid dividends obviously.
|
Wow, big number especially considering NOM. Nice to see these rare L-78's getting attention.
